Munster vs Castres Prediction: Red Army set for nervy battle

A place in the European Rugby Champions Cup knockout stages will be on the line when Munster and Castres meet at Thomond Park in Pool 2 on Saturday (17:30 GMT, Premier Sports 1).
Munster currently sit fourth in the standings heading into the final round, a point ahead of Castres in sixth, but a win for either would guarantee their place in the round of 16 and a bonus-point success could even open the door for a top-two finish. On the other hand, defeat for either would see them eliminated from the competition.

Munster coach Clayton McMillan has made three changes from the team that lost narrowly to Toulon last weekend, with Thaakir Abrahams, Niall Scannell and Jean Kleyn all coming into the starting XV.
Tadhg Beirne will once again captain the team on what will be his 100th appearance for the province, while Munster are also boosted by the availability of fly-half Jack Crowley, who has shaken off a shoulder issue.
Castres have changed six of the side that were beaten on home soil by Bath, although experienced prop Will Collier does retain his place.
Geoffrey Palis, Atunaisa Sokobale and Tom Staniforth are among the players to come in, with flanker Baptiste Delaporte once again captaining the side.
Munster are the overwhelming favourites at 1/25 to get the win they need on Saturday, while Castres are 9/1 outsiders and the draw is priced at 28/1.
The Irish province are 20/21 to pick up the victory even when handing their opponents a 21-point start in the three-way handicap market, while Castres are 5/6 to come out on top with that advantage.
Munster to win by 1-12 points @ 16/5
Munster and Castres are familiar foes as this will mark the 20th time the two teams have faced off and seventh occasion since 2017 alone.
The majority of those recent head-to-heads have followed a similar theme, as there has been no more than six points between the sides in five of the last seven meetings, a sequence that includes a 17-17 draw.
The two exceptions did end in comprehensive home victories for Munster, but the Red Army only shaded things 19-13 when they most recently clashed at Thomond Park in this competition in 2021.
Throw into the mix that three of Munster's four home wins this season have been by one, two and three-point margins and this could well be another tight contest, one that is packed full of nerves given both teams need to win to progress in the competition.
It is also worth noting that Castres have won twice on the road in this season's Top 14 and although they may come up short in Limerick, recent history suggests they can keep the scoreline respectable.
