There’s no doubting the game of the week in Super Rugby, as the Chiefs and Hurricanes meet in Hamilton in a top-of-the-table showdown on Saturday (08:05 BST, live on Sky Sports Action).

Below are my Chiefs vs Hurricanes predictions for Saturday’s big clash at Waikato Stadium, as the leaders’ credentials are put to the test.

Team News

The hosts are still missing Daniel Rona, Kyle Brown and Lalakai Foketi through injury, so Quinn Tupaea moves to outside centre for the first time this season.

Josh Lord returns at lock, while coach Jono Gibbes is boosted by the return to fitness of Wallace Sititi after a hamstring injury. Loose forward Sititi is named amongst the replacements.

Chiefs skipper Luke Jacobson has been named in the starting XV, as he becomes only the 14th centurion in the team's history.

The Hurricanes make just one change from the side that beat Blues 42-19 last weekend, with that switch at lock.

The experienced Isaia Walker-Leawere, who has played 14 times for the Maori All Blacks, comes in to partner Warner Dearns in the second row.

There are three changes on the bench for the visitors, with lock Caleb Delany, hooker Jacob Devery and loosehead prop Pouri Rakete-Stones all included in the squad.

Chiefs vs Hurricanes Odds

Home advantage sees the third-place Chiefs set as the 5/6 favourites to win Saturday’s standout clash.

Hurricanes, who have lost just one of their opening seven fixtures, can be backed at 11/10 while the draw is available at 16/1.

Chiefs to win @ 5/6

On paper, there looks very little to separate these two teams and it is expected to be a tight affair in Hamilton.

Both sides go into this showdown after recording impressive wins last week - the Chiefs winning 62-17 at Moana Pasifika, while the Hurricanes beat Blues 42-19 on home soil.

Much has been talked about the two teams’ attacking flair, but this looks set to be a battle won up front, with two really strong packs.

The matchup between locks Warner Dearns and Josh Lord could be key, while the return of All Blacks star Sititi on the bench could be key for a Chiefs success if they need a late score.

It’s also worth noting that the hosts have won the last two meetings in Hamilton, and Gibbes’ men are seeking a third victory in four at home in 2026.

Total Points - Under 50.5 @ 1/1

The Hurricanes have run in 144 points across their last three matches, an average of 48 per game, but this looks like a tougher assignment.

The Chiefs have conceded just 45 points in their last three Super Rugby fixtures, including 14 in their last home game against the Waratahs.

Although there are plenty of points in both teams, with the likes of Kyren Taumoefolau and Fehi Fineanganofo shining in recent weeks, this could be a battle for forward supremacy.

Hurricanes coach Clark Laidlaw backed that up by this week describing the Chiefs as “probably the strongest forward pack we’ve faced”.

The last four meetings between the teams have produced 43, 50, 35 and 37 points, so a tight contest is to be expected.
