The summer international friendlies provide an opportunity for fringe players and debutants to get valuable minutes and experience on the world stage and Scotland will be hoping that their weaker side can still get the job done against Canada on Saturday (22:00, TNT Sports 1).

Canada vs Scotland Betting Tips

  • Scotland -37 handicap @ 10/11
  • Total points between 41-50 inclusive @ 5/1

Scotland will be playing their first fixtures since finishing fourth at the Six Nations - a tournament Gregor Townsend's men could have finished higher in had luck been on their side in their 20-16 defeat to France.

Les Rouges have not played an international fixture since their 40-15 victory over Brazil last November but the nation ranked 21st in the world could have their work cut out against the world number six outfit, who they have not beaten in three previous meetings.

Team News

Canada head coach Kingsley Jones has handed Dallas Jackals winger Nic Benn his first international appearance as he is set to start on the left.

Ben LeSage, Lucas Rumball and Conor Keys all come in for Les Rouges and they are the only three players to feature from the off that started in Canada’s last home fixture - a 57-34 defeat to Spain back in 2022.

Andrew Quattrin and Andrew Coe both scored tries in their recent win over Brazil and will start at the weekend.

Townsend, meanwhile, has named an inexperienced matchday squad, with 10 members of the 23 in line to make their debuts on Saturday.

The debutants include Glasgow Warriors duo Max Williamson and Gregor Brown, Sale Sharks scrum-half Gus Warr and winger Arron Reed and Edinburgh centre Matt Currie.

Will Hurd, Nathan McBeth, Robbie Smith, Ewan Johnson and Ross McCann are the other players hoping to take to the field for the first time in Scotland colours from the substitutes bench.

Scotland are heavy favourites to record victory in this contest and are 4/6 to cover a handicap start of 34 points, while Canada are 25/1 to claim a shock win.

The tie is available at 25/1 while backing Les Rouges with a 28-point handicap start is 23/10.

Scotland -37 handicap @ 10/11

Despite naming a vastly inexperienced squad for this encounter, Townsend will expect his side to cruise to victory over Canada and they could do so in some style at the weekend.

Scotland have beaten Canada in each of their three previous encounters and two of those victories have by a margin of at least 38 points.

Les Rouges have been comprehensively beaten by more than 50 points in each of their last four meetings with current top 10 nations (South Africa, New Zealand, Wales and England) and another heavy loss could be in store.

Scotland -37 handicap vs Canada at 10-11

Total points between 41-50 inclusive @ 5/1

Two of Canada’s three meetings with Scotland have seen them pick up no more than ten points and it is difficult to see Les Rouges registering a tally much better than this on Saturday.

However, given both sides have plenty of potential debutants likely to feature at the weekend, they could avoid breaking the 50-point barrier and so backing between 41 and 50 points is a tempting wager at 5/1.

Total points 41-50 inclusive in Canada vs Scotland at 5-1
