"A very professional performance" - that was Wello’s take after a very convincing 40-nil win over the Castleford Tigers.

Knowing Paul as I do, the zero will have been the most pleasing.

With a lot of players now returning from injury, Saints looked strong, both through the middle but also on the edges.

The two young guns, Harry Robertson and Owen Dagnall continue to impress. Both players came up with X-factor tries. Harry fielded a Cas kick 10 yards off his own line and took off. He toyed with the Tigers defenders, turning them inside out using the supporting Kyle Feldt as a foil, finally diving over the line.

Then it was Owen’s turn. After some slick hands down the left edge, Dagnall cut back inside breaking the Cas line. He had a number of teammates in support, but backed himself to chip over the covering defenders and win the footrace to touch down.

I love the ability of both youngsters, but more so the confidence to back themselves and play what they think at the time. These two definitely have a very bright future ahead.

However, as most people know it was probably my favourite outside back, Mark Percival that started the dominance.

As Percy does, he hit a short ball from Moses Mbye at full pace five minutes into the game. He run an outstanding lead line with intent, making it virtually impossible for the defenders to deal with.

Following some silky skills from Tristan Sailor, leading to tries for the aforementioned Dagnall and Feldt, 20mins in and Saints were 16-0 up, and ominous for the visitors

Smart scrum play from Daryl Clark and the Robertson special saw the home go in at half time 28-0 and the game virtually wrapped up.

Dagnall and Sailor scored Saints only two tries in the second forty, to secure another two points in the Betfred Super League.

We all know Castleford are not going to be one of the most challenging games this season, but you can only play what is in front of you and Wello and his team will take confidence in the performance going forward.

A bigger challenge certainly awaits this weekend. This Friday, the Saints travel to The DIY Kitchens Stadium, home of the surprise package of the season, Wakefield Trinity.

Back in Super League in 2025, Daryl Powell and his players have been very impressive so far.

Sat in sixth place, one point ahead of Hull FC, Trinity will be looking for another major home win against the Saints.

Never our favourite ground to visit, and what will sure to be a sell-out crowd, this is going to be some game.

Both teams looking to further strengthen their play-off positions. Wakey have certainly entertained this season, with players such as Mason Lino, Max Jowitt providing the strike, but also the likes of Caius Faatili and Isaiah Vagana adding some power up front.

The Wakefield Trinity vs St Helens Odds are: 6/4 for Wakefield, 4/7 for Saints and 18/1 for the draw.

This is a game the Saints forwards must dominate. Thankfully for Wello, his pack are in great form at the moment and will relish the challenge.

I’m going to back a virtual full strength Saints to travel to Yorkshire and take the all important two points. I’m going Saints by 9.5 on the handicap.

Wakefield Trinity vs St. Helens - Handicap 2-Way - Alternative 1 St. Helens -9.5

Finally, I was devastated to hear about the relapse of my good friend and former Saints teammate Micky Higham, who has recently been diagnosed with stage four widespread metastasized cancer.

I knew Micky had previously fought and beat cancer after being diagnosed with melanoma in 2022, but to hear this has returned so aggressively is heartbreaking.

As we always do, the rugby league community has rallied around Micky, giving endless support and much needed financial help to seek treatment outside of the UK.

If anyone can beat this it’s Micky Higham. An absolutely warrior and competitor on the field, but life and soul of the team and a gent off it. We are all here for you mate.
