Bradford Bulls vs St Helens Odds

I was away last week following the Warrington game, hence no column. I was hoping to be back this week, talking about a great win against the Huddersfield Giants.

Well, Saints won, and it was quite the convincing 38-6 victory at the BrewDog stadium. However, the scoreline doesn’t reflect the performance.

Still, it took 22 minutes for Saints to break the deadlock, following a Curtis Sironen try. The home side had the vast amount of possession and field position, but again the poor core skill and execution on attack meant we couldn’t turn this into points on the scoreboard.

Two minutes later, following some individual brilliance from stand-off Tristan Sailor, Sironen crossed for his second try.

Nene McDonald, celebrated his return from injury with a try after great vision from Jackson Hastings. 16-0, and that’s how it would stay up to the half-time break.

It took until the 56th minute for the first points of the second period, and it was the Giants via Cole Geyer following some sloppy goal line defence from the Sironen and Daryl Clark.

Big Alex Walmsley, whom I must say is playing outstanding despite the poor team performances, responded to the Giants try with a signature crash over to put the hosts three scores clear again. 22-6.

The last 10 minutes saw further tries from Harry Robertson and a Jake Davies double. Davies filling in on the wing continued his impressive scoring record, and has been one of the few positives this season so far.

Paul Rowley, like all the crowd, was aware despite the two competition points it was another way under-par performance from his side.

Saints completed 66% of their sets, meaning every one in three times we had the ball, it ended with an error. This is not acceptable - certainly not at St Helens RLFC.

Wins against Huddersfield won’t mean a thing if performances remain at this standard. To win silverware, which is all that matters, we need to beat the likes of Leeds, Wigan and Hull KR, and Saints are currently not good enough.

Rowls hinted at the current transitional period at the club since his arrival at the beginning of 2026, and he's clearly not impressed by some of the personnel he’s inherited. I must agree.

Too many players are continually coming up with errors and indiscipline. Add to that a constantly changing spine, and flat sideways boring attack, it’s a tough watch.

This Saints team currently sit sixth in the Betfred Super League and with a rejuvenated Leigh Leopards in seventh who will be hot on their tail to make the play-offs, they really need to start turning round some form. Unfortunately, I’m not sure some of these players are capable.

Theres no doubt this season there’s been lots of adversity to deal with, namely injuries, and it continues with the loss of Mark Percival to add to the current list of Matt Whitley, Deon Cross, Jonnie Lomax and George Whitby.

This week, the team travel to Odsal to face the Bradford Bulls- scene of some epic battles between these two giant clubs.

The Bulls, in their first season back in top flight, have shown some gutsy performances so far, and despite sitting in 11th place in the league table with five-from-15 wins, will be out to cause another upset.

Rowley goes up against his old Salford assistant and Sintelliner Kurt Haggerty. I've absolutely no doubt Haggy will fancy his side's chances.

I’ll keep the faith though, and tip a Saints win by 13+ points, which is 21/20 with title sponsors Betfred.
