Paul Sculthorpe Betting Tips

Following a routine victory against London Broncos in the capital, St Helens have the short journey to the AJ Bell Stadium to take on Salford Red Devils at the on Sunday afternoon (15:00).

As always, Saints legend Paul Sculthorpe is on-hand with his Salford Red Devils vs St Helens predictions.

Salford Red Devils vs St Helens Tips

  • St Helens to win by 1-12 points @ 19/10

You ought to know by now that my mate Paul Wellens is something of a perfectionist!

I knew as soon as he was interviewed after his St Helens side beat London Broncos 52-6 that he would be angry about conceding a last-minute try.

Despite the margin of victory, Wello admitted the final try of the game ‘stung’. That's the standard at a club like St Helens.

For most of the match on Sunday, it was a professional performance from the Saints in front of over 5000 fans - the biggest crowd the home side have attracted in over 14 years.

With such a vast difference in quality, it was never going to be a classic, which was soon evident as Waqa Blake crossed twice within 15 minutes.

The guy who created both tries also scored one and went on to receive the Betfred Man of the Match. Playing at stand-off in place of injured skipper Jonny Lomax, Moses Mbye yet again showed his quality. His coach said it was his best performance in the Red V to date.

To be honest, I think Saints' best performances have been when Moses has been at the heart of things - be it filling in for Lewis Dodd or, more recently, Lomax. For me, he should be staying there.

Games like that last weekend can be mentally challenging for players, when it becomes clear you're going to win convincingly. The challenge is being clinical and not allowing standards to drop.

However, there was plenty of quality shown by the Saints who were ultimate professionals. Job done and onto the next one.

This weekend's clash with the high-flying Salford Red Devils is certainly going to prove a far tougher test.

Salford Red Devils vs St Helens Odds

Paul Rowley’s men come into the game on the back of a dominant win against Warrington Wolves and will be looking to improve on their current top-half  place in the Betfred Super League table.

Half-back Mark Sneyd is playing some of the best rugby of his career, and someone the Saints defence will have to put under pressure. The rejuvenated Kallum Watkins is also a player in great form.

I believe this will be a close game, but ultimately I fancy Saints to remain at the summit with a win by 1-12 points.

St Helens to beat Salford by 1-12 points at 19-10
