Two teams in search of their first win of the Betfred Super League season meet at the Salford Stadium on Sunday, as Paul Rowley's Red Devils welcome Castleford Tigers at 15:00.

Salford emerged from their narrow opening-round defeat to former champions Leeds with huge credit ,taking the lead before ultimately being edged out 22-16.

Castleford, meanwhile, were outclassed 32-4 by champions Wigan, with followers of this column benefitting from our 6/1 tip for the Warrior to win at The Jungle by 26-30 points.

The Tigers had Liam Watts sent off in that game and could be in line for another difficult afternoon on the other side of the Pennines.

  • Salford to win by 13+ points @ 11/10
  • Ryan Brierley - Anytime Tryscorer @ 6/4

Team News

Salford throw new signing David Nofoaluma straight into the squad with the Samoa international winger poised for his debut after joining from NRL side Wests Tigers.

Full-back Ryan Brierley is free to play after his one-game ban for head contact was overturned on appeal. Prop King Vuniyayawa returns to the side after serving a one-match ban but Olie Partington – a try scorer at Leeds last week, doesn’t make the squad.

Castleford are without forward Liam Watts after his red card last week, but Rowan Milnes is fit again after injury and could make his competitive debut after moving from Hull KR.

Castleford failed to score a try at home to Wigan last week, not helped by Watts’ sending off, but they will need a big improvement against a Salford side who love to entertain.

On another day the Red Devils could have hung on to win last week at Headingley, and they will be fired up to respond in front of their vocal home crowd here.

The addition of Nofoaluma is hugely exciting and could go a long way to filling the void left by free-scoring Ken Sio. The successful appeal of Brierley’s ban is another major boost, with the popular full-back one of the club’s stand-out performers last year.

Salford beat the Tigers home and away in 2023, although the home win was pretty tight at 14-6. I expect Salford to be too good here, and look strong enough to justify the handicap and win by 13 or more.

Ryan Brierley - Anytime Tryscorer @ 6/4

The Red Devils full-back is one of the unsung stars of the Betfred Super League and has made a habit of being the man for the big occasion.

This is his 100th Super League appearance, and the way he supports breaks and chases down kicks it would be no surprise at all for him to mark the occasion with his first try of the year.
