It’s one of the showpiece events in the Rugby League calendar on Saturday as the Betfred Challenge Cup final rolls into Wembley Stadium. East meets west as Hull Kingston Rovers and Leigh Leopards do battle for the famous trophy. We’ve previewed the match and given you our predictions.

Betfred Challenge Cup Final Tips

  • Leigh to win – 8/15
  • Josh Charnley 1st Try Scorer – 6/1

Two famous old sides, Wembley Stadium, The Lance Todd Trophy, Abide with me and all that.

There’s no finer site in Rugby League than the Betfred Challenge Cup final but which of these storied sides will pick up the ultimate prize?

Leigh are the deserved favourites but Hull KR won’t go down easily, themselves chasing a first Challenge cup since 1980.

So, ho will this one go down? Let’s dig in…

Leigh to win – 8/15

What a season it’s been for the Leopards, despite many onlookers expecting them to be battling relegation.

Instead Coach Adrian Lam has made a mockery of such predictions and has won 14 of his last 16 games, to drag the side up to 3rd in the Betfred Super League table.

Before the main course of a potential Grand Final, can they secure their first major silverware for 41 years and a first Challenge cup since 1971?

The Leopards have beaten Hull KR home and away already this season and destroyed them by 30 points last time out.

I see no other outcome but another Leigh win here.

Josh Charnley 1st Try Scorer – 6/1

Ex-Wigan man Josh Charnley has had a terrific season at Leigh, as many thought he was in the twilight of his career, following his move from Warrington Wolves.

Only Tom Johnstone is above the 32-year-old in the Betfred Super League top try scorers chart.

Charnley has scored 22 tries for the season from the wing and been hugely influential in the Leopards incredible first season back in Super League.

I like his chances of finishing off another Leigh attack on Saturday on the biggest of stages.

Betfred are also running their famed Double Delight/ Hat-Trick Heaven offer on this game meaning if Charnley scores first then goes on to score more tries, your odds will be boosted.

Place a pre-match First Tryscorer bet on the Betfred Challenge Cup Final and if they score the first try and then score again, we’ll double their odds and if they score a 3rd then we’ll treble them!
