Knights vs dolphins

Two of the form sides in the world of rugby league face off in the NRL Premiership on Sunday when the Newcastle Knights host the Dolphins at McDonald Jones Stadium (4:05pm local, 7:05am BST, Sky Sports Action).

Newcastle have collected six victories in seven but go up against a Dolphins side on an eight-match winning run. Here are my Knights vs Dolphins predictions, complete with Betfred’s match odds and the latest team news.

Knights vs Dolphins Betting Tips

  • Dolphins by 1-12 @ 9/4
  • Jamayne Isaako Anytime Tryscorer @ 4/6

Knights vs Dolphins Odds

There’s not much in this one, according to the bookies. The Knights are 21/10 for the win in 80 minutes, with their visitors 5/6. That implies a 54.5% probability of a victory for the Dolphins.

The draw in normal time is a 16/1 shot.

Team News

State of Origin call-ups result in a couple of changes for the Knights, with Queensland’s Kalyn Ponga and NSW’s Bradman Best away on rep duty.

Fletcher Sharpe switches back to full-back to account for Ponga’s absence, with Sandon Smith starting at six. Meanwhile, Fletcher Hunt comes in for Best at centre.

Rugby League Odds

There are wholesale changes for the Dolphins thanks to the absences of Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jack Bostock, Selwyn Cobbo and Tom Flegler. There’s also the blow of Isaiya Katoa’s broken wrist, which sees Brad Schneider step up at scrum-half.

Trai Fuller, Jake Averillo, Tevita Naufahu and Felise Kaufusi come in for the Origin quartet, while Tom Gilbert is among the interchange options.

Dolphins by 1-12 @ 9/4

Having gone on a great mid-season run last year and fallen away, there will be no complacency shown by the Dolphins between now and Round 27.

A first finals appearance is still by no mains a guarantee, with just two points separating them from ninth spot in a fascinating-congested league ladder.

So I believe Kristian Woolf’s main mantra of late will have been not to let their level drop. And they will need to be at their best on Sunday against a Knights side coached by Woolf’s St Helens predecessor Justin Holbrook.

This is going to be one almighty tussle, and I can see this going similarly to the Fins’ 26-24 win over the Warriors last Saturday. There won’t be much in it, but the Redcliffe side are showing they have what it takes in multiple scenarios just now.

Jamayne Isaako Anytime Tryscorer @ 4/6

With 14 tries and 69 goals in 15 appearances, there aren’t many Dolphins games which go by untouched by the flying winger.

He has crossed the whitewash in 10 of those 15 matches thus far, and that includes seven of the last nine.

A pair of tries against the Warriors last week helped his side to a narrow win, and I like the look of him being similarly effective against the Knights.
