There’s a big Yorkshire derby to get stuck into on Friday evening with Leeds Rhinos taking on Huddersfield Giants at Headingley in front of the Sky cameras.
These are two ambitious sides but things haven’t gone according to plan in 2023, with Leeds down in seventh, six points adrift of the Play-Offs spots, and Huddersfield two points further back in tenth.
Leeds went all the way to the Grand Final in 2022, while the Giants finished third to suggest great things to come. It hasn’t panned out that way, though, and these two are in the doldrums.
It’s hard to be too bullish about either side given their current form but Leeds are warm favourites at 8/11 given the home advantage, while Huddersfield are 6/5 to win at Headingley for the first time since 2018.
Leeds Rhinos vs Huddersfield Giants Betting Tips
- Leeds Rhinos to win by one to 12 points @ 2/1
- Drop goal to be scored @ 9/4
Date: Friday 23rd June
Winger David Fusitu’a, scrum-half Aidan Sezer and prop Sam Lisone have all been named in Leeds’ initial 21-man squad.
Fusitu’a has not played since suffering an ankle injury at the end of March. Lisone missed three games with a calf muscle problem and a hamstring issue has kept Sezer out of Leeds’ past two matches.
Nene Macdonald misses out with concussion, and winger Liam Tindall has been left out.
Joe Greenwood and Jermaine McGillvary have returned to the Huddersfield squad, but Harry Rushton misses out after picking up an injury in training.
Leeds Rhinos to win by one to 12 points @ 2/1
This fixture is often tight at the best of times, but with both sides struggling for form, this contest could swing either way, but preference is for Leeds to edge it.
The Rhinos are unbeaten in their last six home fixtures with the Giants, who have won just one of their last six matches, and just five of their 14 matches all season.
Points are proving hard to come by for Ian Watson’s men who have scored just 223 points this season at an average of 15.9 per game. More may be needed for them to win this contest at 6/5, but it is hard to have any faith in them at that price.
The last eight meetings have yielded winning margins of just one, four, 14, zero, six, one, one, zero, so the best bet looks to be Leeds getting over the line in a victory by no more than 12 points at a decent 2/1.
Drop goal to be scored @ 9/4 with #PickYourPunt
These are often close encounters and this latest tussle at Headingley is unlikely to be any different with both sides not in the best shape.
Points could be at a premium on Friday so don’t be surprised if either side attempts a drop-goal, and the 9/4 that one is successful also looks a decent wager.
