Castleford Tigers will look to add to Leeds Rhinos’ growing list of problems when the two teams meet at Headingley on Friday (20:00) in the final round of the Betfred Super League regular season.
There is nothing to play for, with Leeds unable to reach the play-offs, while Castleford successfully fended off the threat of relegation earlier this month.
Castleford won the previous meeting 26-24 at Magic Weekend back in June, but Friday’s game may not be as close given Leeds’ recent displays.
Team news
Wigan-bound Sam Walters is back available for Leeds after serving a suspension and he has replaced youngster Leon Ruan in the Rhinos’ 21-man squad.
Nene Macdonald remains in Australia after the birth of his child, while Liam Tindall is hoping to make his final appearance before he moves on at the end of the season.
Castleford head coach Danny Ward has Kenny Edwards available again, while academy prospect Fletcher Rooney has also been named in the squad.
Edwards will play his final game before retiring, while Greg Eden and Suaia Matagi have confirmed they will move on at the end of the campaign.
Castleford to win @ 11/8
Leeds’ home advantage makes them favourites, but there is nothing to like about Rohan Smith’s side at the minute. The Rhinos camp appear to be thinking about next season, which is never a good sign when the job still isn’t finished.
The facts are laid bare, though, most of Leeds’ team have got plans to play elsewhere, while Smith is still unsure of his own future.
Leeds have lost two in a row by a combined score of 111-0 and it is impossible to trust them for Friday’s encounter.
Castleford First Half Handicap +1.5 @ 10/11
Friday’s match has little riding on it, but it is still a derby and Castleford are hoping to make it three wins on the spin against Leeds.
The Tigers have done enough to avoid the drop, but they are still miles away from being competitive next season.
Ward’s squad will look to bow out on a high after an emotionally draining campaign and, if they can start well, Leeds’ resistance should soon drop away.
Castleford are set to play a care-free brand of rugby in their final game of the season and you can expect them to take charge from the outset.
