Knights vs tigers

One of the NRL’s upwardly mobile clubs faces a side going nowhere but down when the Newcastle Knights host the Wests Tigers at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday (4:05pm local, 7:05am BST, Sky Sports Action).

Newcastle have climbed from 12th to fifth on the back of five wins in six, but Wests have dropped eight spots to 10th after a 2-5 run since April. My Knights vs Tigers predictions follow below, along with Betfred’s match odds and the latest team news.

Knights vs Tigers Betting Tips

Knights vs Tigers Odds

Given the polaric form boasted by these sides, the Knights were always going to be favourites for the two points.

The home side are 1/2 to keep their upturn going, while the Tigers are 9/5 with Betfred to halt their current slide.

The draw in 80 minutes can be backed at 14/1.

Team News

Not only are Newcastle on a great run, they also have some good news on the squad front.

Jermaine McEwen is back following a club suspension, while Origin stars Kalyn Ponga and Dylan Lucas also return.

Fletcher Sharpe moves from one to six to allow for Ponga’s inclusion, with Sandon Smith dropping to the bench. Thomas Cant is also among the interchange options in the move which sees Lucas start.

Rugby League Odds

Wests have Adam Doueihi back for the first time in eight weeks after a shoulder injury, but Jock Madden’s head injurknock means it’s a like-for-like swap in the halves.

Patrick Herbert now has a shoulder problem of his own, so Starford To’a moves in one to centre and Jeral Skelton takes the wing spot.

Bunty Afoa drops to the bench in a straight swap with Fonua Pole in the front row, while Alex Twal is fit after a knee issue so he comes in at loose forward. Alex Seyfarth is demoted to substitute in the corresponding move.

Knights by 13+ @ 13/10

It was at this stage last year that the Knights’ nine-game season-ending losing streak began. But they were a very different team 12 months ago.

Under Justin Holbrook they showed real maturity early on in 2026, and after a three-game blip in April they have truly put things together.

Three of their five recent wins have actually come by smaller margins than this bracket accounts for, but when Wests are beaten they are beaten badly.

The handful of losses in the Tigers’ last seven games have been by 42, 28, 28, 68 and 14. So I’m happy to back the same happening here against one of the comp’s form teams.

Dom Young Anytime Tryscorer @ 4/6

If you’re playing it safe, you’re going for one of Greg Marzhew and Dom Young in the Anytime Tryscorer market.

Between them they have 29 tries in 27 matches, and that’s despite two and three-game skids respectively coming into Sunday’s clash.

That won’t last too long though, and England winger Young is my pick for a try against a ragged Wests. He has 14 in 14 this term, and 61 in 75 across two spells in the Hunter Region.

Even at 4/6 and an implied 60% probability, his stats make this a punter-friendly bet against a team in rank-bad form.
