Saturday’s opening Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final in Doncaster is a repeat of last year’s golden-point thriller, won by Hull KR against the then holders Wigan, and this one could also be an epic. (Kick-off 13:45)

Rovers lost that final to Leigh but have found some superb form this year and will fancy themselves once more against the World Club champions.

Hull KR vs Wigan Warriors Betting Tips

  • Handicap 3-way Wigan Warriors -10 @ 11/10
  • Liam Marshall anytime tryscorer @ 4/5

Hull KR vs Wigan Warriors Odds

Hull KR are valued at 23/10 to win this match in 80 minutes, giving them an implied probability of 30.3%. Wigan are on offer at 4/11, which gives them a 73.3% chance of victory. The draw can be backed at 18/1 (5.3).

Team News

Wigan haven’t been to Wembley since 2017, having tasted success two years ago at Tottenham, and boss Matty Peet sends a formidable squad to south Yorkshire to try and make it back to the capital.

Prop Liam Byrne is missing as he serves a two-match ban, and his place in the squad goes to utility Ryan Hampshire in the only change from last week. Byrne was cited for a head contact on Huddersfield’s Matty English.

Harvie Hill or Mike Cooper are the contenders to step into the matchday 17 in Byrne’s absence.

Rovers have a strong squad too for their biggest game of the year to date. Both Jack Broadbent and Jack Brown are cup-tied, allowing Reiss Butterworth and Louix Gorman to earn places in the 21-man squad.

Half-backs Mikey Lewis and Tyrone May will hold the key to Rovers producing an upset, while in his final season at the club before returning to end his career at Leeds, Ryan Hall is often the man for the big occasion on the wing.

Handicap 3-way Wigan Warriors -10 @ 11/10

Wigan came up trumps for followers of this column last week, with both our handicap and anytime tryscorer bets landing thanks to the dependable brilliance of Liam Marshall.

Cup semi-finals are often the hardest games of all to call, given the neutral venues, the raucous atmosphere, and the fact that both sides are more often than not bang in form.

We would be extremely fortunate to get another thrilling golden-point finish as was the case 12 months ago, but I do think this will be a gripping contest. And unlike the meeting between these two sides at this stage last year, I think the Warriors will prevail.

Rovers' chances lie with the creativity of their halves and the reliable finishing of their wingers, but I just see too much quality across the whole pitch from Wigan for them to be turned over here.

I expect this to be close, and would not be surprised to see Hull KR hit the front, but ultimately I think Wigan’s big-game experience will prove key. If it stays close throughout I still fancy the Warriors to nick a try or two late on, which could be enough to justify a bit of value in the 10-point handicap.

Wigan Warriors -10 handicap at 11/10

Liam Marshall anytime tryscorer @ 4/5

Marshall did exactly what we backed him to do against Huddersfield last week, thriving in the absence of try-chart rival Adam Swift to bag a hat-trick to move clear of his rival at the top of the try charts.

Marshall hadn’t scored in Wigan’s last two games and he never blanks in three straight, which is why we back him so confidently. He was 4/6 last week and is slightly shorter at 4/5 to go over again here, which I will snap your hand off for.

If you fancy Marshall to score the first try then that is an enticing 11/2 chance, or you could even go Double Delight, by backing Marshall to score the first try at 11/2 we will then double those odds if he scores a subsequent try. The way Marshall has been running in multiple scores this season, that could well be one to consider.

Liam Marshall anytime tryscorer at 4/5 If your player scores the first try of the match, and then goes on to score another, we'll DOUBLE your first tryscorer scorer price!
