Leigh Leopards vs Batley Bulldogs Prediction: Mauling in store?

A fascinating Betfred Challenge Cup match-up in Leigh sees two sides who now feel worlds apart in rugby league's hierarchy, despite meeting in the 2022 Championship Grand Final, a game which proved the platform for the Leopards' stunning rise since.
Batley remain a competitive Championship team, with Leigh going on to win the Challenge Cup the following year and establish themselves as one of the best in the British game. (Kick-off 3pm)
Leigh vs Batley Betting Tips
- Handicap 3-way Alternative 1: Batley +50 @ 7/5
Team news
Leigh have featured in two of the standout games in the opening four rounds of the Betfred Super League, a 1-0 golden-point win at champions Wigan and last weekend's thrilling draw against Hull FC.
Boss Adrian Lam makes just one change to what is a strong squad, with half-back Gareth O'Brien dropping out through concussion protocols having suffered a head knock against the Black and Whites. Ben McNamara is expected to get his chance in the halves alongside Lachlan Lam.
Winger Darnell McIntosh is included and looks set to make his return from injury, with Aaron Pene also expected to feature.
Batley will be without key forward Dane Manning who was handed a mammoth eight-match ban for fighting against Bradford Bulls.
Handicap 3-way Alternative 1: Batley +50 @ 7/5
This is an interesting handicap to call, as Batley won't get anywhere near winning the game. But they are a very stubborn Championship team, and have already had some impressive early-season results including a draw away to much-fancied Oldham at Boundary Park.
There is no real point looking into the recent match-ups, given the different paths both clubs have gone on since their season together in the Championship in 2022. If you're interested, Leigh won each of the three meetings that year with ease - 44-12 in the Grand Final being the closest outcome. Victory margins in the two regular season games were 58 and 52.
I think Leigh - given the squad that Lam has selected - will win this with a fair bit of room to spare. But there is some value if you back the Bulldogs to keep it around the half century mark.
There have not been many blowouts in round four this weekend - Super League leaders Hull KR beating Oldham 40-0 is the biggest margin of victory over Friday and Saturday. This of course could be the game that we see a cricket score, but I'm going to take the value on offer for Batley to keep it within 50.
