Magic Weekend 2025 wraps up with a West Yorkshire derby between two fierce rivals as Wakefield Trinity look to reignite their early-season promise against struggling Castleford Tigers on Sunday (17:30, Sky Sports Action). Four points separate the two sides going into the weekend, but Tigers boss Danny McGuire will look to build on last weekend's confidence-boosting victory at rock-bottom Huddersfield.

Below are my Castleford Tigers vs Wakefield Trinity predictions, complete with the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Castleford are expected to hand a debut to the versatile Chris Atkin after his move from crisis club Salford finally went through this week.

Tigers boss Danny McGuire is also boosted by the return of long-term injury victim Louis Senior, with the prolific winger having been out since last May with a torn quad.

The two men to drop out of the squad are back row forward Jeremiah Simbiken who suffered a knee injury in that win at Huddersfield last weekend, and hooker Cain Robb.

Rugby League Odds

Wakefield boss Daryl Powell has half-back Jake Trueman back to line up against his former club. He is named in an initial 21-man squad, although how fit he is after a back injury, we will see.

Winger Matty Russell also returns, having been in fine scoring form before picking up a rib injury.

The players to drop out are Renouf Atoni and Caleb Hamlin-Uele, who both picked up injuries in the defeat to Catalans last weekend.

Castleford Tigers vs Wakefield Trinity Odds

Castleford Tigers are 19/10, or a 34.5% chance, to win this game, with Wakefield Trinity 4/9 and the draw 18/1.

Handicap 3-way Alternative 1: Wakefield -10 @ 7/5

If Castleford can build on their win at Huddersfield last weekend, then this could be a really good game, more so given the fight that Wakefield showed in the south of France before eventually succumbing to the Dragons on golden point.

Both of these sides really need to get a run going. Wakefield have shown they are the stronger side so far this term, starting the season really well before a difficult April that yielded three defeats and one victory. That sole win was actually against Castleford in a 13-12 thriller, and this game could be just as close to round off Magic Weekend.

That said, I am going to go a bit bolder on this one. I genuinely think either side could win this game, but I just feel that Castleford are more capable of an off day. What I mean by that is that Wakefield could turn the screw in this one after the initial arm wrestle and it will be up to the Tigers to respond.

It is a fascinating clash of coaches between legendary player Danny McGuire, still finding his way as a coach, and Daryl Powell - one of the most experienced leaders in the game. Powell, of course, made his name at Castleford and will know better than anyone how to plot their downfall.

Not with a huge degree of confidence, but I am leaning to Wakefield this weekend once again, and am taking them to win by a couple of scores for the extra value.

Innes Senior anytime tryscorer @ 1/1

I feel there will be points in this for both sides, and it could be a really good day for the outside backs of both teams.

Last week we backed Innes Senior to score for Castleford away to Huddersfield and he obliged with two scores in the Tigers' win, returning at 5/4.

Senior is narrower odds this week, but I keep faith with the players in form, so will stay on him to grab another at St James' Park.

Other good options this week are Wakefield wingers Matty Russell and Tom Johnstone, plus the returning Louis Senior at 6/4.

Don't forget, we are offering Double Delight across Magic Weekend - so if you back a player to score the first try and he goes on to score again, then we will double your first tryscorer price!
