The race to become the next Tory leader is heating up, with the Conservative Party conference currently ongoing in Birmingham.

Our man Peter Spencer is on-hand with the latest updates, as one candidate strengthens his position as the clear front-runner.

Next Tory Leader Odds

  • Robert Jenrick @ 8/13
  • James Cleverly @ 3/1
  • Kemi Badenoch @ 5/1
  • Tom Tugendhat @ 14/1

Robert Jenrick is odds-on at Betfred to be the next permanent Conservative Party leader as the Tories attempt to battle back from the worst general election defeat in modern times.

The former housing secretary is now as short as 8/13 to be elected to take on Sir Keir Starmer's Labour government.

Although Jenrick has emerged as the front-runner, he or any of his three rivals won't, under current voting arrangements, get the nod from the Conservative faithful until November 2.

With the government's first budget fast approaching later this month, there have been rumblings at the ongoing Tory party conference that the process of replacing Rishi Sunak needs speeding up.

Jenrick cemented his pole position after early leader Kemi Badenoch made controversial remarks about maternity pay - although after her clarification she's still in with a great shout of making the final two, who will be decided by MPs to be put forward to the party members.

She remains handily-placed at 7/2, with her popularity boosted, within certain circles at least, after she compared herself to former PM Margaret Thatcher.

In third place is shadow home secretary James Cleverly at 4/1, while former military man Tom Tugendhat is the 16/1 rank outsider.
