Rob Earley plans to fly his American girlfriend into London for a romantic weekend after a big win at Betfred thanks to his first love... Tamworth F.C.

He won £3.8k on the FA Cup third-round game between the non-leaguers and Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs won in extra time but project manager Rob, 44, was so confident the National League club would hold out for 90 minutes that he placed two £50 bets.

He got on before kick-off at 66/1 and then again at 10/1 during the break after a goalless first half that the score would be 0-0 after 90 minutes.

The jubilant winner, who's supported part-time Tamworth - 16th in the fifth tier - for 20 years, has wasted no time in deciding how to spend his windfall.

He said: "I'm involved in a whirlwind romance with Stephanie (pictured alongside Rob below) who I met on holiday in Mexico three months ago - and I'm flying her over to London for the weekend. We'll be going to the Michael Jackson show in the West End.

"Will I be talking about Tamworth, who I have been supporting since I started work in Tamworth 20 years ago? Probably not, as she likely won't understand - although she does know about American football. Maybe depending how it goes next time she's over here we can take in a Tamworth game!"

He went on: "I just felt with the small dressing rooms at the Lamb Ground, our artificial pitch and then when our players had to sort out a gap in the nets which delayed kick off, that Spurs wouldn't be used to any of that and that we'd keep them out."

Betfred boss Fred Done said:

"I'm expecting a wedding invite if this long-distance romance leads to anything more permanent!

"Tamworth were desperately unlucky not to win and in different, fairer times they would have forced a money-spinning replay."
