Self-confessed petrol head Ken Taylor is off to Japan to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix next month after his big win at Betfred.

He picked up £50,000 from a £1 wager on the Irish Lotto – more than enough to keep him globe-trotting around the world following his favourite sport.

The 63-year-old is a follower of his hometown club Walsall in League Two, but his big love aside from his family is F1… especially Lewis Hamilton.

Ken, a groundwork supervisor in the construction industry, picked the winning numbers 5, 6, 11, 23 and 27 mainly at random, although five and 11 represent the birthdays of two of his grandchildren.

“It’s great to win so much from just £1,” said the jubilant winner.

“I’ve been married for 43 years and I’ve given my wife and daughters some of the winnings.

“We’ll be going to the Lake District to celebrate my wife’s 62nd birthday, and then maybe Greece which is our favourite country.

“It’s Benidorm for Christmas, but before then it’s Japan for the Grand Prix. I absolutely love F1 and have already done Singapore and Azerbaijan (pictured above) – and I was in Abu Dhabi when my favourite driver Lewis controversially lost in 2021.”

Betfred boss Fred Done said:

“Ken’s certainly got himself in pole position with 50k in his back pocket!

“Have a great time in Japan and here’s hoping Lewis is a winner just like Ken.”
