Betfred Big Winner: Punter’s astonishing 10p acca returns £21k

Great granddad Graham Phillips has won £21,000 at Betfred from a TEN PENCE stake.
His remarkable, against-the-odds triumph has got bosses here at Betfred wondering whether it’s ever been done before.
Graham, 82, picked the favourites in three races at each of Goodwood, York and Windsor and astonishingly all nine finished first past the post.
Graham is a popular regular at the Betfred shop on High Street near his home in Dawley, Telford.
The father-of-four, who has seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, couldn’t help but jump for joy as the last horse of his acca, Hell For Leather, came in.
He said: “It’s a formula I’ve been using for many years, as the favourites do often win – although it’s rare for all nine to come in.
“Sometimes six or seven of my selections get the job done, but it’s very unusual for this kind of bet to prove a winner.”
When asked how Graham intends to spend his windfall, he said: “I might be getting a new car and some of the money will go to our extended family. The wife says I don’t need a new motor, so let’s just say it’s on the agenda!
“We’ve not had a chance to celebrate yet because on the day all those horses were running I had to take my wife to hospital as she’s not been very well – although this win has gone some way to cheering her up. I will be having a few drinks, however. That’s for sure!”
Betfred boss Fred Done said:
“In 58 years of business I’ve rarely seen this kind of win. To turn 10p into £21,000 by picking the winner of nine races is quite the achievement. Well done, Graham, you’ve picked my pocket good and proper.”
