Betfred Big Winner: Couple bound for sunnier climes after cruise giveaway

It’s hardly the most romantic place, but a dream has just come true for Betfred customer Shaun Cahill.

He met his girlfriend at the Betfred shop at Rock Ferry, The Wirral – and less than a year later he’s taking shop assistant Millie on a luxury cruise.

Shaun, who’s training to be a football coach after ill-health forced him to quit playing the game he loves, won the VIP trip at Betfred – without even having a bet on!

The Manchester United and Tranmere supporter took part in Betfred’s £5million Christmas Draw promotion, whereby boss Fred Done promised to pay out a million to five customers if it snowed at Heathrow Airport on Christmas Day or if all Premier League team scored on Boxing Day.

Neither scenario happened, but Fred decided to give out luxury cruises to customers selected at random.

Shaun said: “Millie couldn’t believe it when I told her. We’ve been looking through the brochures, deciding where to go, and basically it will be anywhere hot!

He went on: “I was born with a rare brain condition and at the back of my mind I knew it would affect my chances of being a pro footballer.

“I got to Tranmere Rovers’ U15 academy team before having to stop, now I’m studying football management and getting my UEFA coaching licenses.

“You’re not going to believe how I met Millie. We were both on social media back in May last year and I said I was near where she lives but she wanted to know exactly where, so I explained I was at the Betfred shop in Rock Ferry where I’d put on a football accumulator bet. She said she’d pop down… and the rest is history

“Not many people, I guess, start off their romance at Betfred!”

Betfred boss Fred Done said:

“I have wondered over the years whether there have been any romantic liaisons at our shops. We do have over 1,300 of them nationwide, but I suppose the odds on that being the case are quite high.

“In fact, I’d like anyone who has got together romantically at Betfred to get in touch – and there might be a few surprises in store for them with Valentine’s Day fast-approaching.

“I’m convinced Shaun and Millie will have a brilliant time out at sea in the sunshine. With the big chill in this country at the moment, it’s a fantastic time to get away and enjoy their prize.”
