Derek Wells plans to keep on globe-trotting after winning £20,000 at Betfred - from a TWENTY PENCE wager!

The 69-year-old Yorkshireman puts his success down to his two grandchildren Poppy and Noah as the five winning numbers on his two Irish Lottery bets are based around their birthdays – with Noah born on the sixth day of the ninth month in 2016 while Poppy was born in 2021.

So, his 10p four-fold and five-fold on the lucky numbers 6, 9, 16, 20 and 21 won Derek, a loyal customer at the Betfred shop on Crown Street, Halifax, a cool £20,000.

He found out about his good fortune while on holiday with his wife Diane in Goa, India.

He promptly used his windfall to book again for the 12th year in succession, plus a family trip to the Canary Islands in both May and August.

The retired chemical industry plant operator said: “I’ve been a Betfred customer for 20-odd years and regularly have a go on the numbers – and I like my horse racing. This is my biggest win yet.

“We’ll be making sure Poppy and Noah have a great time in Gran Canaria with some of the winnings, that’s for sure – and we’ll be heading to Goa, where we’ve been going for Christmas and New Year for over 11 years, again.”

Another customer from Yorkshire – a 39-year-old father-of-two – has won big on the Irish Lottery, pocketing £30,000 from two £20 wagers.

His winnings were boosted by a £2,000 Betfred bonus.

The electronic shop manager from Sheffield said: “I’ll be using most of the money to pay towards my mortgage, but we’ve also got a nice holiday in Spain planned.

Betfred boss Fred Done said:

“Great news for these two customers from Yorkshire – and knowing folk from that part of the world, I know they’ll spend their new-found wealth wisely!”
