Wolverhampton racecourse

There’s a little something for everyone on Thursday, with five meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland and it should be a competitive day of racing action. One of the day’s fixtures is Wolverhampton’s bumper nine-race all-weather card, where they race from 14:20-18:45 and the going description is Standard.

We’ve had a good look at all nine races and picked out our three best bets to follow across the card and they include one for Mark Loughnane who should be winning again soon.

Wolverhampton Tips - Thursday, March 26

  • 14:50 - Salamanca City @ 5/2
  • 15:20 - Upepo @ 4/1
  • 18:45 - Invincible Speed @ 11/1

14:50 - Salamanca City @ 5/2

James Fanshawe's SALAMANCA CITY remains relatively lightly raced and the four-year-old filly was a fair fourth over 1m3f at Kempton when last seen in October.

She returns after a 162-day absence here and should be nice and refreshed.

Getting off the mark at Leicester in July, that victory came over 1m2f and you would imagine the extended 1m1f trip here will be fine on that evidence.

All her best efforts have come between a mile and 1m2f and it would be a surprise if there wasn't more to come.

It's a slight concern that Fanshawe has no winners from his 10 runners in the last fortnight, but it only takes one winner to get the ball rolling and Salamanca City could be the one.

She's entitled to progress physically this year and a mark of 74 shouldn't be beyond her.

15:20 - Upepo @ 4/1

Look out for UPEPO here as Tony Carroll's gelding always saves his best for Lingfield and Wolverhampton. He has made the frame in all three starts here and returned to winning ways over course and distance last time out.

Held up in the early stages, he made smooth headway after being switched and ran on well to score by a length-and-a-half, despite hanging to the left late on.

The handicapper has responded with a 4lb rise, which doesn't look unreasonable, and he should be in the mix.

Carroll has been busy of late, with plenty of runners in the last fortnight, but he's only had a couple of winners.

That's not really a concern, however, and a follow-up victory could be on the cards, with Jason Watson coming in to take the ride.

15:20 Wolverhampton - Winner Upepo

18:45 - Invincible Speed @ 11/1

Ballycamus was a good winner at Ludlow 36 days ago and Kelce, who was second to the Nigel Twiston-Davies runner on that occasion, has since gone on to win at Wetherby.

The six-length Ludlow victory took the eight-year-old's record to 4-11 over fences and, while Ballycamus had previously disappointed at Windsor, a poor run on an idiosyncratic track can be forgiven.

Twiston-Davies' charge has a record of 3,1,2 at Warwick, so it's clear that eight-year-old enjoys his visits to the Warwickshire venue and Ballycamus' excellent jumping is likely to prove a major asset at a course where getting into a good rhythm is crucial.

The forecast faster conditions are a slight concern, but jockey Sam Twiston-Davies may well opt to boss the race from the front and the tough Ballycamus could prove a difficult horse to catch.

18:45 Wolverhampton - Winner Invincible Speed
