19.00 – Kaidu @ 11/4

A little Class 5 novice sprint, with three horses standing out at the head of the market as being the most likely to contest the finish.

My selection is Kaidu, and though earlier there seemed to be a difference of opinion as to who will be on board on Thursday evening, I understand Oisin Murphy will be doing the steering.

This gelded son of Profitable is trained by Archie Watson, extremely able but especially adept at nurturing sprinters. Just 3 career starts so far, the last two of which have been highly respectable (2nd and 4th in similar races at Donny, over 6f). That was when he was in the care of Clive Cox – and now Archie, after taking control of Kaidu earlier this month, switches him to the minimum trip.

A change of scenery and routine often ekes out a little improvement, and I’m hoping Oisin can help the horse to break his maiden under the Dunstall Park lights.

19.30 – Belle Fourche @ 9/2

Another sprint, a Class 5 fillies’ handicap, this time over 6f.

Belle Fourche is a 4-yr-old, trained in north Yorkshire by David O’Meara. She has won a couple of races and is slipping down to a very tempting handicap mark. Won off 75 here around this time last year and races off 70 on Thursday night.

Good second at Chelmsford just under a fortnight ago and looks to strike while (fingers crossed) the iron is warm-ish here. David Nolan takes the mount. Began her career in Ireland and can take this for her talented handler.
