One of seven meetings across the UK & Ireland on Thursday 17 August is a six-race, all-weather offering from Wolverhampton.

I’ve got a couple of tips for the card – both ridden by the brilliant William Buick, who looks set for a successful afternoon.

3.20 – Payment In Kind @ 8/11

The first of my two selections at Wolverhampton on Thursday is Harry Eustace’s Payment In Kind for this two-year-old maiden over 6f.

Straight off the bat, the booking of William Buick is an eye-catcher that must be noted. Plus, the son of Profitable easily boasts the best form on offer in this field of seven.

Specifically, he followed up a promising racecourse debut at Newbury in the middle of July with a fantastic third behind Lowther Stakes favourite Relief Rally and the 84-rated Dapperling in the Super Sprint Stakes just over a week later.

They’re two strong pieces of form that should make him exceptionally hard to beat in this company – and that’s without factoring in expected improvement, especially for this step back up to 6f.

4.20 – Happy Chandler @ 11/4

Exactly an hour later, I’m hoping Buick will be back in the winners’ enclosure courtesy of the red-hot Owen Burrows’ Happy Chandler.

The two-year-old, who is a half-brother to the 114-rated, Group 1-placed Isaac Shelby, has only ran once to date and if he was to run to form it’s fair to say he most likely wouldn’t win this 2yo maiden over 1m½f.

However, I’m expecting huge amounts of improvement from the son of Al Kazeem who did basically everything wrong on his debut in a strong contest at Sandown early last month.

Slow out of the gates, he was in rear throughout and was far too green to do himself justice. He kept on nicely enough though, which suggests this step up in trip should suit.

The Burrows yard is, and has been for a while, in exceptional form and I’m hopeful that Happy Chandler will have learned plenty from his introduction and can give us something to smile about here.
