All-weather Tapeta action from Dunstall Park, Wolverhampton, on Friday, Oct 26th. Eight races, decent field sizes, and two of my favourites jocks – Hollie Doyle and Billy Loughnane.

As I write, Oisin Murphy is chalked up for just one ride, in the 19.45 – if it’s indeed the case, take the hint!

17.15 – Zayina @ 2/1

Zayina did us a favour at Brighton the other day, ridden by the superb Billy Loughnane, and The Kid is on board once again here for trainer George Boughey and the double green team of Souede and Munir.

She recorded a career-best at the seaside for that last success, showing a nice turn of foot and a willing attitude. This is a lovely filly who connections are enjoying a late-season burst with, and although all-weather suitability has to be taken on trust her excellent trainer and outstanding jockey can plot a way into the winners’ enclosure for me.

Billy was crowned champion apprentice at Ascot last weekend, and it’s astonishing to think that everything has happened in about the last 18 months or less. He’s shot to prominence from relatively nowhere – but what a talent.

20.15 – Phoenix Beach @ 5/1

The lucky last – and a Middleham Park-owned 4-yr-old gelding in the care of Richard Fahey.

Phoenix Beach is well drawn for this 5f dash in the 3 box, and ran almost as well as he ever has last time over course and distance, beaten just one-and-a-half-lengths.

He won off 72 last summer, and had a wind op in May of this year. Only two runs since, notably that last one 18 days ago. Again runs off a mark of 67, and his shrewd trainer would love I’m sure to scoop this little pot and maybe explore further all-weather opportunities with him over the winter.

Jack Garrity remains on board, and surely has a very bright chance.
