Windsor Racecourse

It’s a busy Monday with no fewer than six meetings across the UK and Ireland, four on the Flat with a couple of jumps meetings. The evening card at Windsor is the focus here with the meeting kicking off with a three-year-old handicap at 4.30, and it’s set to be good-to-firm with no rain forecast before racing.

I've picked out a trio of horses to follow on Monday, including a nice prospect that looks set for bigger things in the opener. Below you can find my Windsor Tips for Monday, May 12.

Windsor Tips

  • 16:30 - Global Asset @ 5/2
  • 19:05 - Lawn Ranger @ 13/2
  • 20:15 - Stryder @ 5/1

16:30 - Global Asset @ 5/2

A low draw is often an advantage around the tight turns of Windsor’s figure of eight circuit, particularly over the mile trip and one that looks capable of going well in the opener on Monday’s evening card is GLOBAL ASSET.

William Haggas’ gelding has an ideal low draw in stall one so he should be able to get a good position down on the inside. There are possibly several other factors in his favour too, most notably the step up to the mile trip having run a belter over six furlongs at Lingfield when last seen, shaping like he would relish further.

His pedigree suggests as much given that he’s a son of Night Of Thunder out of a Kingman mare and his dam is a half-sister to two winners over the mile, so there’s every chance he will be improving for this sort of distance this season. His pedigree also suggests he will be fine switched to fast ground on turf, despite his best effort coming on Polytrack so far.

A gelding procedure in the off-season is another potential source of improvement and the aforementioned Lingfield run is also worth marking up given that he met plenty of trouble in running in the closing stages of that contest. His trainer, William Haggas, generally has no issue getting them ready off an absence and therefore the 170-day break isn’t a major concern. He ought to go well and should probably be favourite for this contest in which Betfred are paying an extra place.

19:05 - Lawn Ranger @ 13/2

Later on the card, there’s a potential uncontested lead on the cards for LAWN RANGER. He’s another that has an ideal low draw in stall one and with no other front-runners in the contest, an uncontested lead looks entirely possible.

He has a remarkable record over this course and distance with five wins to his name and he’s only rated 1lb higher than his last two course and distance victories.

Expect him to come on from his recent return on all-weather where he shaped like it was a pipe-opener for another turf campaign and he could be hard to pass.

20:15 - Stryder @ 5/1

In the finale, STRYDER showed signs his turn may be near when narrowly denied over the minimum at Chelmsford when last seen. That was his first try at five furlongs and his half-brother was a winner over the trip, so his future could be at this sort of distance.

He should be able to get a good position here from stall two and if he can build on that run after a short break, the son of Oasis Dream ought to go well from just a 2lb higher handicap mark.
