Who won the 2024 Grand National?

We’ve got the biggest jumps race of the year coming our way on Saturday, as the Grand National comes to our screens at 16:00.

Thirty-four runners and riders will battle it out to go down in the history books, and join the likes of Red Rum, Tiger Roll and Corach Rambler on the list of winners.

Winning this race can instantly make you a legend, with names of victorious horses and jockeys remembered for the rest of time. Of course, you will want to make sure you pick that winner out on Betfred to land yourself a success of your own, but let’s take a look at the past winners and find out who won the 2024 Grand National?

Who won the 2024 Grand National?

The winner of the 2024 Grand National was I Am Maximus, under Paul Townend. The eight-year-old was a first-time winner of the race, but he is back this year to defend his crown for Willie Mullins.

In terms of past winners, the most famous of the lot has to be Red Rum. He won back-to-back titles in 1973 and 1974 and then returned in 1977 as a 12-year-old to scoop his third crown. Mr Frisk set the record in 1990 for the fastest run, while Peter Simple is the oldest horse to ever win the race, as he took glory in 1853 at the ripe old age of 15. 

Since 2012, only horses aged seven or older are allowed to take part, and Noble Yeats became the first seven-year-old to win since 1940 when he was first past the post in 2022 for Emmet Mullins. 

Noble Yeats was the biggest-priced winner of the last 10 years at 50/1, while Auroras Encore was 66/1 back in 2013. The last 100/1 winner came back in 2009 as Mon More produced a shock win at Aintree, and after back-to-back favourites winning, perhaps we are due another outsider roaring to victory. 

Last year I Am Maximus finished just ahead of the late Delta Work, who was a horse loved by thousands. Minella Indo came third with Galvin in fourth, as 21 runners in total completed the race. But who will come out on top in 2025?
