We're getting there - it's nearly time for Epsom's Betfred Derby Festival. Friday and Saturday, May 31 / June 1. It's the turn of the fillies on Friday (Oaks), followed by just about the most prestigious and renowned flat race on the planet - the Betfred Derby on Saturday.

For bets placed from Monday May 27, 14:00 and beyond, both the Oaks and the Derby are now NRNB (Non-Runner No Bet).

Latest betting (NRNB as from 14:00, Mon 27/5)

Friday's Oaks is set to be run at 16:30, and Irish maestro Aidan O'Brien unsurprisingly has a strong hand. They include Ylang Ylang, a beautifully-bred daughter of Frankel out of a Shamardal mare.

She was close up in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, beaten just a length, and this is certainly the logical step forward from that. She was staying on nicely at HQ and has another half-mile to cope with here. You'd say she's almost certain to appreciate 10 furlongs on breeding, but 12? Fascinating.

The Derby colts on Saturday are also headed-up market-wise by a Ballydoyle raider - City Of Troy.

16:30 once again is the scheduled off-time, and the likely favourite will have to put a very modest display in the 2000 Guineas firmly behind him if he's to oblige on Saturday. He was beaten 17 (yes, seventeen) lengths, with his trainer noting that he got tired in a swiftly-run affair on seasonal debut.

Whatever you fancy, from here on in (Mon 27/5, 14:00 and after) you can have a flutter safe in the knowledge that you're 'on' NRNB.
