Tuesday was a fallow day here on the US Extra Place Races column due to circumstances out of our control but we are back for Wednesday. Monday was a profitable day with two big priced places coming in at Finger Lakes so why not take another run at the New York venue? As always all our of selections come from outside the top three in the Morning Line Odds…

US Horse Racing Tips – Wednesday 2 August, 2023

  • Back Reiner e/w in the 19:13 at Finger Lakes @ SP
  • Back Wild Banker e/w in the 19:52 at Saratoga @ SP
  • Back Remoane e/w in the 21:09 at Finger Lakes @ SP
  • Back Meet Me At Mundis e/w in the 23:00 at Penn National @ SP

We start our day as mentioned up at Finger Lakes where in the 19:13 we have a back-to-back winner at this track, on the same surface, at the same distance priced up as the sixth choice of seven. What am I missing here? Reiner looked a pretty mediocre horse for much of the 2021 and 2022 campaigns but has seen a clear uptick in form in 2023. Three wins from his past five runs includes a third place as well. Won here in late June and early July. That potential price looks very big indeed.

Next up we have one Extra Place Race on the card at Saratoga, which is the 19:52 for State Bred three-year-olds and up. I like the look of the joint-fourth choice in the betting, the six-year-old Wild Banker who has put up pretty decent speed figures throughout his career. A poor run at Belmont back in May has been the catalyst for the expected drop in odds but before that he’d enjoyed a strong winter season at Aqueduct, winning twice and finishing runner-up in five starts. The top two look the class of the field but at his best, this Michael Dini horse can hang with them and can challenge.

We go back to Finger Lakes for the 21:09. I’m going to give you the six most recent results for the fourth choice in the betting according to the Morning Line and then we’ll think about whether we reckon she has a good chance to finish in the top three. From six races ago to the most recent 3-1-3-3-3-2. Remoane is a six-year-old Mare who is clearly nothing special but is very consistent. Every chance of beating her odds and placing.

The fourth and final selection for racing this evening Stateside comes in the first at Penn National (23:00) where we dip once again into State Bred action where the sixth choice in the betting has been on a very strong tear recently. The five-year-old Meet Me At Mundis has finished runner-up in all of his three races so far in the calendar year and ended his four-year-old campaign with a win. Great recent form although his speed figure last time out was a big drop-off. That is probably why the odds are expected to be longer but I like the opportunity of a top three finish.
