20:34 Gulfstream Park (Race 8) - Cadamosto @ SP
Purely on class, it can be argued Panther Island (5) is the runner to beat. He’s performed well in stakes races in his last two starts, running third in one of them. They were on the turf but he has a super record on today’s Tapeta surface. Now plunging in grade into a high end claimer, he has a decent chance of getting back to winning ways.
Cadamosto (6) has tactical speed and should get the jump on Panther Island (5). He plots to be on or close to the pace in a race without a ton of early speed. He’s been running in starter events lately, winning two out of his last three. He may be the answer here.
Old Chestnut (3) may be the better of The Martin Drexler trained pair. Both he and If Not for Luck (4) wanted no part of a mile last time. The first named is a player off a win at Woodbine in December. If Not for Luck (4) has a chance off a third in a better event in January.
Poulin in O T (1) and Seaver (7) are in form. The last named ran second to the selection last month.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
20:59 Turf Paradise (Race 3) - River Of Ambition @ SP
You can make a case for probably a quartet of these. Three of them come off victories. Onella (6) made all over five-and-a-half furlongs in a quick time last month. She’s never raced over this short distance but obviously has plenty of speed. A trainer change to a high percentage one may see her improve rather than regress.
However, slight preference is for River of Ambition (4). She has come to life since moving to Turf Paradise from California. She won a weaker event by four-plus lengths over course and distance last month. From post 10, she managed to make the lead and the rail which is no mean achievement. In the hope she is quicker than Onella (6), she may be able to hold her off late on.
Sorority Party (1) comes from gate one which is often a big advantage over this abbreviated trip. She stalked the pace when winning over six-and-a-half furlongs a fortnight ago.
Provided she breaks on terms, she can go well saving all the ground from the inside. In contrast, Daddy Classy Dill (7) starts from the outer stall. Even in a smallish field, that can mean ground loss at the turn. She has to be reckoned with off a second at this level over five furlongs last month.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:31 Turf Paradise (Race 4) - Jimmy's Wild Boy @ SP
Dekudylan (8), Mongolian Spring (5) and Luka Grazie (3) have recent placed form in similar races to this one at this meet.
The trio are all players. That said, there are a number of new faces who may be capable of upstaging them. Vinniebob (1) and Dinero de La Casa (7) broke their maidens on the dirt last time. Both have form on turf. Vinniebob (1) draws well to get ground saving trip. He is playable.
Buy the Rumor (4) was overmatched in his first start after breaking his maiden. He shaped well in better races on the turf. Jimmy's Wild Boy (6) makes the same surface switch. His comeback on the dirt may bring him on. He ran well in all three tries on grass including when in deep in California. In a wide open race, he gets the vote.
The lone three-year-old in this line up Candy Crusher (2) is an unknown on turf.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
