19:09 Tampa Bay Downs (Race 6) - John's Promise @ SP
Old Town Road (7) is on a hat-trick after a pair of clear-cut victories here last month. He has to be reckoned with but isn’t guaranteed to be as sharp running for the first time for a new trainer. Chromed Impulse (3) was also claimed last month. The speedster is now back with the same connections that won with him in November. He is a wire to wire threat.
Auger (4) was bumped at the start last time so that below par run can be ignored. Prior to that, he was a fine third in a swiftly-run race. He’s a player off that run. DeSantis (8) and John's Promise (9) finished behind him that day. Both are capable of better.
John's Promise (9) gets off the rail and is reunited with jockey Samuel Marin who won on him in January. In a pretty open affair, he may be worth siding with.
Gabagool (5) has been running well enough on Tapeta at Gulfstream to contend. This surface is an unknown. He does get a drop in class and gets in light ridden by a 10lb claiming rider.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
20:41 Tampa Bay Downs (Race 7) - Go Stormy @ SP
Makoa (1) and Bingo's Grind (8) ran one-two in a similar race to this one in January. The pair are obvious players. The rail drawn runner was in too deep in a much better race subsequently. Flamingproposition (2) was more fancied in that event but ran below her previous form. She’s another to add to the shortlist.
Reserve Endrick (11) has to be reckoned with if she gets in this race. She ran with credit in a much better race at The Fair Grounds on her three-year-old debut. That was on the dirt but she did shape well on her only start on today’s footing.
A surface switch saw Go Stormy (4) go from the outhouse to the penthouse last month. She broke her maiden by four lengths. It was no surprise the switch to the turf transformed her bearing in mind her pedigree. If she improves a little, she may be able to beat winners at first asking.
K Paz (5) ran third at this level on dirt last month. She has form on turf so looks interesting.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
22:31 Turf Paradise (Race 5) - Happy Chappy @ SP
Unless there are some key scratches, the early fractions up front are likely to be hot and contested. Conquest Secret (4) wired a field over four-and-a-half furlongs last time. She may get very brave on the lead on her own for dangerous connections. The chances are she drags a few of these with her and a more patiently ridden runner prevails.
She Said My Way (6) and Warrior Lady (5) are likely to be charging after being well back early on. Above the Fold (1) who finished ahead of Warrior Lady (5) on the turf last time should be positioned more advantageously.
That said, it may be chancing Happy Chappy (2) stepping up to a mile for the first time. She as a late running third sprinting on her local debut and is bred to handle more ground.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
