Mahoning Valley Race 7 (20:03) - Pepper Pike (4) @ SP
The speedy Real Naughty (6) continues in fine form at today's level. He wired a field over a mile when upped in distance from six furlongs. The five year old drew off to win by almost six lengths despite setting decent fractions. It was on a day that virtually every winner went wire to wire. That and likely company on the front end are reasons to look in a different direction. His main pace rival Dr Jack Flyer (3) ran his best race for some time when wiring an allowance field last month.
If either of the speed horses scratch, Geaux Yoshka (7) and Pepper Pike (4) may be up against it. Presuming they don't, the pair can be right there when they are giving out the medals. Geaux Yoshka (7) 'ran into one' when second last time. As Pepper Pike (4) finished eight lengths behind Real Naughty (6), he should be a price. He was given a quiet ride in the middle part of the race. Second time back after a break may see him in a better light. Maybe have a win bet on him a couple of forecasts with Real Naughty (6) and Geaux Yoshka (7).

Mahoning Valley Race 8 (20:31) - Eddie M (2) @ SP
Wildcat Express (9) looks very dangerous from on or just off the speed. He's been freshened up since a couple of big efforts in November and December. They came on wet tracks but he can run just as well on a dry footing.
Cybertime (4) and Eddie M (2) seem the most likely to run him down Wildcat Express (9). Cybertime (4) ran down a field of claimers at Laurel in January. He may not have been suited by the sloppy track on his previous visit here. His trainer Anthony Farrior is having a super meet at Mahoning Valley. The new conditioner of Eddie M (2) is a competent operator. He's ran well in both starts since moving to Ohio from Kentucky. He was only fourth last time but that was a stakes calibre race won in a fast time.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Turf Paradise Race 3 (20:57) – Race Home (5) @ SP
What a Dude (6) is the one to beat on the class drop. He ran third in a stake here last month. That and most of his recent starts came on the turf. He did run well in a rare start on dirt in November. His rider Allyssa Morales isn't everyone's cup of tea but she has got a good tune out of this six year old at this meet.
In form trainer Justin Evans is double handed. The evergreen veteran Surprsinglyperfect (1) comes out of the better races. He lost by a nose in his last start in late January. Now as then, he should get pace to chase down. His new stablemate Race Home (5) was claimed off a comeback victory last month. The form as it stands looks a tad inferior to What a Dude (6) and Surprsinglyperfect (1). Looking at his new trainer's record, he may improve now going for a trainer with the hot hand.
Lansdowne (4) wired a field of claimers over course and distance last month. A negative trainer change is an issue but he could double up if he makes the lead on his own.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Fair Grounds Race 8 (22:15) – The Mardi Gras Stakes - Huntress for Hire (1) @ SP
Almost all of this field ran in a stake here over course and distance on 1 February. That includes the first five home. If things break their way, any of them could take this. The winner Accomplished Girl (6) got a good ride for Jose Ortiz. She has tactical speed but not as much early zip as the runner up Speedy Traveler (8). More pace to chase down would suit the third Big Trouble (7) who flew when she got clean sailing late on. Oeuvre (4) was made second favourite after a stakes victory in December. She broke slowly and did too much running to get into contention.
Trainer Al Stall is double handed. His Gavea (3) is unexposed in sprints, winning a conditions race over course and distance last month. His stablemate Huntress for Hire (1) may go well at a price in this spot. She has been running to a decent level on dirt. On her one start on turf, she ran well from a very wide post. Her jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. is one of the best around at saving ground. From the rail, he may be able to at least make the frame.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Turf Paradise Race 7 (23:00) – Handsome Harry (3) @ SP
Lykan (9) will take plenty of money plunging in class. He was in very deep in his last start and seemed to find six and a half furlongs too short. The eight year old has form over a mile in Canada that make him very dangerous. He goes for a trainer who is winning races in bunches at this meet. His go to rider Orlando Mojica is aboard.
Lykan (9) has a potentially tricky draw. Preference is for the other likely market leader Handsome Harry (3) who has a better post. He ran his best race so far at this meet when third in a starter over six and a half furlongs last month. He's now back at the level Jose Silva Jr. claimed him in January. His trainer had him before last summer and autumn where he won twice over a mile for him.
Westphal (5) ran second in a similar race last month. This race seems to have come up tougher. Shanagolden (1) may have a better chance of posting the upset than him.
