20:03 Will Rogers Downs (Race 5) - Contrabandista @ SP

The standard setter at the level is Bronte Diem (2). He finished clear of Searchin Safari (4) and He Blue Bayou (5) when a close up second over course and distance at the start of the meet. The four-year-old has to be reckoned with and he may get loose on the lead.

Trainer Kenny Jansen is double handed here. It will be interesting to see if both his runners take their chances. His Asymmetric (6) was a clear cut winner over six furlongs on his local debut eight days ago. He is unexposed over a mile. However, his stablemate Contrabandista (7) may be the one here. That is based on form and winning rider on Asymmetric (6) Richard Eramia appearing to prefer him.

He has been mainly been running with credit in deeper claimers at Oaklawn. The last time he raced at a level he could contend in, he landed the odds in a claimer at Louisiana Downs. If he is scratched, it would be a tip in itself for Asymmetric (6).

Wrinkle Road (1) has been running on the turf in Texas. The last time he raced on dirt, he ran third in a similar race to this one. He is not out of this. Neither is Kinfolk (3). He goes for a red hot trainer and may improve for getting more ground.

So too is Last Action Hero (8). He ran big in all three starts over a mile earlier in his career.

20:03 Will Rogers Down (Race 5) - Winner Contrabandista

Odds correct at time of publishing.

21:25 Turf Paradise (Race 4) - Desert Breeze @ SP

Many of these three year olds are light raced and/or have never raced on the turf before. Benandonner (6) fits the bill on both counts. He won on his career debut on the dirt.

he fact his in form trainer and savvy owner/breeder switch him to the grass for career start number two is a hint of even better to come. Unlike him, Bob's Decision (8) is proven on the footing. He showed improved form when breaking his maiden first time on the turf earlier this month.

A trio of these ran second, third and fifth in a claimer sprinting on the dirt last month. Desert Breeze (1) ran too good to lose. He has from on turf. There is a chance he makes the lead on his own.

He may be worth siding with in a race of many ways to go. Gun Powder (7) and Dancing Porky (5) finished behind him last time. Both could improve for the surface switch. Reboso (2) goes for the same trainer as the last named. He was a clear cut winner of a maiden last month.

By Decreed (3) and Border Vigil (4) tried a deeper race facing older horses last time. Border Vigil (4) did the better running third. He’s the form horse although may be a tad overbet going for a high percentage trainer. Thirsty Vision (9) may be a bigger price. He ran fourth in a stakes event last month. Now getting class relief, he’s another who can win if things go his way.

21:25 Turf Paradise (Race 4) - Winner Desert Breeze

Odds correct at time of publishing.

21:54 Turf Paradise (Race 5) - Earthly Tiger @ SP

This is a really interesting race with Keep It Coming (3) clearly the horse to beat. He had shown decent form sprinting at this meet but took his form to another level running first time over a mile. The result was a 12-length romp. The pair he beat were hardly superstars but the margin of victory and the final time suggests it was a legitimate performance. He was claimed last time by a trainer with a fine record with first time acquisitions. He’s not spotted him too deep so the double up is a strong possibility.

Keep It Coming (3) is likely to be priced up as if he is bound to repeat that possible freakish effort. That and coming back only a fortnight later are grounds for taking a small stab in another direction with a price chance. Echo Canyon (2) is likely to be second favourite. He’s burned plenty of backers’ money lately with five losses, four at odds on.

In his one start on dirt during that spell, he finished behind Clear the Coast (6). He has now been placed in a trio of straight races at this meet. He’s one to consider for the forecast.

Shaun's Jazz (7) was backed as if defeat was out of the question when scoring on his local debut. He was far from disgraced in a deeper event next time. The switch to the dirt is not an issue bearing in mind his form in California. He is dangerous if he makes the leads on his own.

Earthly Tiger (1) has not the fancy speed figures as Keep It Coming (3) but is a possible upsetter or forecast type to be second to the form runner. The last time he raced on dirt, he dead heated at the level below this one.

That form is better than it looks and has been franked since. The third went close next time and the runner he dead heated with beat Clear the Coast (6) by over five lengths at today’s level.

Let Me Love You (8) gets back on the surface he last won on. Lasmuigh (5) is a stablemate of Keep It Coming (3). Like him, he improve trying a mile on the dirt.

21:54 Turf Paradise (Race 5) - Winner Earthly Tiger

Odds correct at time of publishing.
