Turf Paradise Race 3 (20:55) – High Gunner (5)

Miss Union (7) and Unrivaled Queen (1) will rightly take money on the class drop into straight claiming company. Miss Union (7) is strictly the gal to beat. She won a small stake on her local return and has ran second in decent company subsequently. It is a little surprising she is for sale for $10,000 here considering she ran so well for more than twice that price last time. She may have won then if not being forced wide around the turn. Unrivaled Queen (1) has more early speed than her. She beat a field of Arizona breds before stumbling at the start last time. The rail drawn runner may be softened up in a speed duel from Don't Tell Hydee (2) and possibly a runner like Drink and a Wink (6).

There are two other gals well worth a look in here. Diplomatica (4) won a starter event over course and distance in December. She’s ran well in much better company than this one subsequently but did finish behind Miss Union (7) in one of them. Maybe High Gunner (5) is the runner to side with here. She outfinished a field of claimers for today’s price last month. A repeat of that form when Rubysa (3) ran third may not be good enough. She seems to be heading in the right direction form-wise. That may see her run back to her fine efforts here last spring. Maybe take her for a win and have a saver forecast with Miss Union (7).

Turf Paradise Race 3 - Winner High Gunner

Odds correct at time of publishing.

Turf Paradise Race 4 (21:25) – Firefight (4)

Two runners who had form in much tougher maidens in Kentucky last year will take money. Brownstone (5) was a well backed favourite on his local debut but came up a length or so short. He may have run into a talented first time starter and the winning time was fast. Bearing in mind the promise he’d previously shown, he could go one better. The fact that G G Gilley (1) finished close up behind him keeps the form down a little. The fourth Rebellious Red (6) has some upside. He was making his career debut and ran well considering he started poorly.

Firefight (4) faded badly over a mile on turf on his return and local debut. In his one start on dirt, he ran a close up second in a maiden at Churchill. The winner hasn’t race since but the third has ran well twice at big tracks subsequently. That run was in the slop and he is very likely to race on a dry track for the first time. His dam handled the footing fine so he may be able to run his best race on the surface. He may be second or third favourite here so may be the play at the odds.

Regarding Harry (2) and Big Stetson (8) are first time starters. The trainer of the first named has had some success with debutants at this meet. He has been working like he has plenty of ability. So too has Big Stetson (8). If either take money against the form horses would indicate they are live.

Turf Paradise Race 4 - Winner Firefight

Odds correct at time of publishing.

Turf Paradise Race 6 (22:21) – Bea Mischief (2)

A case can be made for at least four and five of these fillies and mares. Unified A. P. (7) comes out the best race. She finished a close up fourth in a higher priced claimer at the start of the month. Off that run, she holds Vella (5) who ran below her best. She should be just as effective over this slightly longer distance. Deficit Maja (6) has won over six and a half furlongs in the past. She improved second time back to be a runner up at this level last month.

Deficit Maja (6) and Em N Holl's Fiesta (4) both come off victories over fields of two-time career winners. The first named is holding her form well. Em N Holl's Fiesta (4) improved a little for a trainer change. That’s the angle in with Bea Mischief (2). She has been inconsistent running poorly after fine second two starts back  She now runs first time for trainer Robertino Diodoro. That fact alone may see her come back to form. In a race of many chances, she may be the play.

Sahara Sue (1) ships in from California with the back form to win this. At her best, she is capable of outfinishing this field. She may be worth a small saver.

Turf Paradise Race 6 - Winner Bea Mischief

Odds correct at time of publishing.
