One place and no outright wins from our three selections on Wednesday making it two days in a row with a loss following a healthy Monday profit. Back on the horse though for the US Extra Place Races column and as always, all of our selections are from outside the top three in the betting according to the odds on the Morning Line and we go three picks deep…

In the second race of the day at Delaware Park (18:30), I like the look of the four-year-old filly Snappy Ride, who is making her first appearance outside the state of Pennsylvania. As is often the case when taking longer shot horses, their odds are inflated on the back of a poor run or two and that is no different here. Before those previous two poor showing however, she had won three of her previous five and placed in six of her 11 races in 2022. Priced up as the sixth-choice of seven, there is plenty to like at those odds to place.

A rare trip for this column to Horseshoe Indianapolis next up for the 20:43 as fifth-choice on the Morning Line gets the nod from us in the form of Hot Pastrami. This is a very consistent five-year-old out of Grade I winner Dominus, who has placed in five straight at six or six-and-a-half furlongs. A dabble going over a mile and a sixteenth back in March did not work but a return to a sprinter’s distance has got him back on track. Was runner-up here last month in a race at this distance.

For those staying up late, we have a five-furlong turf race at Del Mar where the rank outsider has a real shot to place in Minedandrefined. This three-year-old filly was asked to go a mile and a sixteenth last time out and she clearly didn’t like it, finishing tenth. Before that however she won over a six-and-a-half furlong distance and has been putting in some fast bullet works at the track. Has a good chance to outrun her expected price.
