19:51 Pimlico (Race 6) - Meg's Foxy Grey @ SP
High-percentage trainer Brittany Russell has two fillies entered. Belle Ofthe Wood (3) made a fine debut at Colonial Downs in March. She ran a close second to a runner who had fine form at big tracks. Since then, the winner has been second in a stake at Prairie Meadows. She sets a good standard.
It will be interesting to see both her and her stablemate Maida (4) take their chances. Sheldon Russell, who rode Belle Ofthe Wood on debut, is the named jockey on Maida. She is a first-time starter whose dam was a Grade 3 winner. She’s been working like she has plenty of ability with a series of encouraging drills at Laurel. Her trainer has fine stats in almost every department, including winning with newcomers.
Even if Brittany Russell runs one of her two, it may be a tough task for any of these to beat her. Pneumo Warrior (1) ran well for a long way on debut at Laurel. She may improve. Fabia (2) and Golden Sword (5) are debutantes. The last-named has a nice pedigree and has been working well.
That said, MEG'S FOXY GREY (6) may have the most upside. She ran second in a maiden over a mile at Oaklawn last month. That was over a mile but she travels like she can run her race over six furlongs. She may be able to at least round out the forecast with The Brittany Russell fillies.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:29 Pimlico (Race 9) - She's A Gem @ SP
If this race stays on the turf, Reassess (1) will take money. She made an encouraging return when fourth at Gulfstream last month, but like many in this field, she finds it hard to get her head in front.
Likewise, Shared Authority (3) ran well for a long way in a higher-priced claimer on her comeback at Laurel last month. If things break their way, the pair could snap long losing runs.
Glossamer (4) flattered to deceive many times last year. She has been working well for her seasonal return. Maybe fresh is the best time to catch these win shy types. She may be a late player.
Any Fools Gold (11) and Police Woman (6) will be bigger prices. Both gals may be all the better for recent comeback spins.
With so much rain around, this race may be switched to the dirt. If that is the case, Maddie Ten (5) and SHE'S A GEM (8) may be the pair to concentrate on.
The first-named has plenty of form in similar races to this one. Her last start can be ignored as she had trouble early on. The selection has won both her starts since her debut in March. This field is likely to not any deeper than she beat at Laurel last month. She won’t be inconvenienced by a wet track.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:41 Gulfstream (Race 8) - Don't Tell Tammo each-way @ SP
The standard setter at this level is Happy Ride (3). She won a starter event last month before losing by a neck over course and distance a fortnight a so later. In the process, she split a pair of decent types. She is too sharp to ignore but may be dragged through faster than ideal early fractions. In addition, she meets a couple of recent maiden winners who may have improvement to come.
Greenfield Cougar (6) wired a field of maidens over furlongs on debut in March. Her only other start can be ignored as she didn’t seem to stay a mile. She may have price appeal with Shelovestotravel (7) likely to be favourite or a close second favourite.
The three-year old-won nicely at first asking on Tapeta last month. She has worked well on the turf so the surface switch shouldn’t be an issue. The worry at her price is she may have competition for the early lead.
This may be a race to look for one at a price. Travel Happy (8) has rattled up a hat-trick since losing narrowly on her debut. They were claimers but they may be able to handle the class rise.
DON'T TELL TAMMO (1) makes slightly more appeal. She was far from disgraced in a much deeper event here last month. There is a good chance she gets a nice trip sat off contested early fractions here. She looks a filly to use in forecasts or play each-way.
Carroll's Honor (5) may outrun her odds here. She has only raced on dirt but her dam was a talented turf sprinter. Reserves Unshakable (9), Nana's Corn Muffin (10) and David's Rose (11) are not out of this if they get in this event.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
