After a delayed start to the week, we rolled on Tuesday with two horses placing at a SP of 10/1 and 14/1 respectively. Can’t argue with that!

We go three picks deep again today and as always, every tip comes from the Extra Place Races available on Betfred and we only select horses priced up as outside the top-three favourites according to the odds on the Morning Line…

US Horse Racing Tips – Wednesday 27 September, 2023

  • Back Raise the Rent e/w in the 18:30 at Delaware Park @ SP
  • Back Sabelle e/w in the 18:50 at Thistledown @ SP
  • Back Magic Wizard e/w in the 22:15 at Presque Isle Downs @ SP

*Betfred will price up US Races closer to Post Time.

In the 18:30 at Delaware Park there is a back-to-back winner at the track whose odds according to the Morning Line are 8/1. That feels big to me and upon further investigation, they are.

Therefore Raise the Rent out of the wonderful sire that was Malibu Moon is our opening selection for Wednesday evening. This five-year-old has placed in over 50% of his career races (10 of 18) and has six wins to his name, which is a pretty decent 33% clip.

The recent form of this horse has been exemplary as he’s hit the board in five of his past six races on the dirt, including winning three of them. It is a good looking field for a nondescript sprint race but with excellent recent speed figures and form at this track, at anything like the 8/1 the market should open at, well worth an each-way play.

Over at Thistledown for the 18:50, we once more tip up a horse whose odds are 8/1 according to the Morning Line and this one is a track specialist with an excellent record at the Ohio venue.

Sabelle is a five-year-old filly who has enjoyed a fairly average career thus far. From 26 races, there are four wins to her name, five times she’s finished runner-up and four other times we’ve seen this sprint specialist hit the board. So this Raquel Castro trained horse is paying out at a 50% clip to place in the top three. If we look solely at her record at this track however, it looks even better.

Three of her 26 career wins have come here from 12 starts. This daughter of Grade I winner Declaration of War has also hit the board on four other occasions. So far in this summer-fall meet, the results have been 3-1-5-1 and in back-to-back races has put up the top Equibase speed figures of her career so far at 72.

Nothing spectacular here but a good chance to place at a decent price and that is the aim of the game.

When looking at consistency and a good record at a certain track compared to the career norm then a good example would be Magic Wizard who goes in the 22:15 at Presque Isle Downs.

This six-year-old has taken to the track 29 times, winning just the once but placing on 14 other occasions. He is your typical race horse based at a small-to-medium sized track who races every few weeks and pulls up very few trees.

His record however since moving back to Presque Isle Downs for this meet has been significantly better than his career average. 3-1-2-3-4-4-3-3 in his eight starts, which as you can clearly see, included his only win and he placed on five other occasions. Not too bad for a 6/1 shot.

So he’s in decent form, likes this track and is the fifth choice on the Morning Line, that ticks pretty much all the boxes for what we look for in this Extra Place Race column.
