Not many races to pick from on Tuesday for our Extra Place Race column as we look to pick up the pace after a pretty shocking few days.

As always our selections come from outside the top horses according to the Morning Line odds as we look to find value in the market…

US Horse Racing Tips – Tuesday 19 September, 2023

  • Back Beachside e/w in the 18:44 at Finger Lakes @ SP
  • Back Brienne of Tarth e/w in the 20:56 at Fort Erie @ SP

*Betfred will price up US Races closer to Post Time.

With only two Extra Place Races up on the site as of Wednesday morning, not too much to choose from both I do like a couple of 8/1 shots on the Morning Line to be competitive.

In the first of the two races, which is the 18:44 at Finger Lakes, the seven-year-old Beachside looks like a steady each-way bet. This course specialist has been based at the New York course for the past three years and been a steady performer in recent runs.

A win and three times he’s hit the board in his past four races at this distance on this course. That is not a bad record for someone priced up as the fifth choice of seven heading into this one.

Six furlongs is undoubtedly his best distance as his record going three-quarters of a mile is considerably better than what he’s managed either going shorter or longer. Since the start of 2021, he’s only failed to finish in the top three once in eight attempts when asked to go this far.

Later in the evening we take a trip north of the border for a five-furlong turf race where the four-year-old filly, Brienne of Tarth, has that 8/1 price on the Morning Line despite having five straight races where she’s finished in the top three.

With a fine bloodline coming through the precocious Malibu Moon, who has sired multiple Grade I winners, this young horse has certainly found her feet having started to race exclusively at sprint distances having spent most of her early career going a mile plus.

That move to running sprint races has seen her form really come along and in those five straight times hitting the board, they include two wins.

This race has attracted a couple of very nice horses, including the Morning Line favourite Bodacious Miss but our selection has every chance of a top three finish at a price that would bring in profit if you bet her each-way.
