Wednesday provided yet another outright winner for our US Races Extra Place Race column as Lady Quinn came home at Finger Lakes.

For Thursday evening we once again go three picks deep and as always, every tip is an each-way play from outside the top three in the betting according to the Morning Line odds…

Thursday begins for us in the 18:00 at Delaware Park with a pretty decent quality five-and-a-half furlong sprint race where six of the seven runners have won recently.

The horse I’m looking at though is Liking It Twisted. A four-year-old filly by the nice-looking stallion Jess’s Dream has been ultra-consistent in recent months, having hit the board in five straight races, including winning on two occasions.

It must be said that her performances as a four-year-old have more than surpassed what we were seeing at the age of three, when she only won once in nine starts to add to a couple of places. This year it has been four wins and five places from just 11 appearances on the track. That is a much better ratio.

The Morning Line odds suggest the market will open at around 8/1 and that feels like a good enough each-way play to start our evening.

Over at Aqueduct, where the current Belmont Park meet is being held, in the fourth race on the card (19:12) I like the chances of debutant Louie’s Heat to find his way towards the front of the field.

This three-year-old by Grade I winner Latent Heat has looked really good in his breezes up at Belmont, including going four-furlongs in a very handy 47 seconds flat early last month. That is faster than what the short-priced favourite has done in his training runs recently.

It isn’t the best quality six-furlong race I’ve seen up on the NYRA circuit, so if we get the 8/1 on offer then I’m more than happy to see if he can translate his form from the workouts to a race.

Rounding out the trio of selections for this evening is Tivis in the Greg Veit Scarlet and Gray Stakes (19:20) at Thistledown.

This five-year-old by two-time Grade I winner Take of Ekaki finished runner-up in this race a year ago and since that performance, hasn’t missed the board in seven starts. That includes three wins on the spin.

Her overall record is extremely solid with ten wins (including three at  Skates level) and nine places from 24 starts, meaning she has paid out in over 75% of his races for a top-three finish.

Plenty to like here as she ticks an awful lot of boxes, very good recent form, excellent record of finishing in the top-three along with having multiple wins at this track and distance. The fact the Morning line has priced her up at 6/1 and the fourth-choice of seven makes me smell value.
