We were cooking with gas at the Betfred Insights US Horse Racing Tipping desk on Tuesday as our Nap won and our two each-way plays both scored at prices which meant they were profitable. Makes up for Monday's debacle I suppose!

Two of our picks today come from horses stepping down in the quality of opposition and I think a two-year-old is a massive price at Delaware Park...

US Horse Racing Tips

  • Back Ade e/w in the 19:30 at Delaware Park @ SP
  • Back Strasse in the 21:47 at Philadelphia @ SP
  • Back Business Model in the 23:45 at Louisiana Downs @ SP

19:30 Delaware Park:

My longshot fancy from an Extra Place Race this evening comes from the fifth-race on the card at Delaware Park, where the rank outsider according to the US Pools looks like a big price to hit the board, with Betfred paying out for a top-three finish in this race.

Betting on races for two-year-olds at this point in the season is often tougher as all we have to go on in bloodlines, a few breezes and the form of the trainer and/or jockey.

In this instance, Ade, was sired by a well-known Stud in Hoppertunity, who won multiple times at Graded Stakes level, so that helps us. In addition, her training runs recently have been solid enough and she’s improved in her last three attempts, shaving two seconds off her five-furlong time.

Jose Rodriguez hasn’t been in action much so far this year but he’s had three winners from 12 starts as a trainer. So put all that together and at 10/1 or longer, this is an each-way play all day long.

21:47 Philadelphia:

I like the chances of Strasse in the last at Parx tonight. This three-year-old broke his Maiden last time out at Churchill Downs and has been looking steadily quicker with three runs in the 70s when looking at Equibase Speed Figures in the past three months.

He’s been based at Oaklawn Park and Churchill Downs throughout his young career following his debut at Ellis Park and he gets a bit of relief going up to Parx, where the quality of horses in the field will be a step-down compared to what he’s used to.

Sired by Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, he was sold at auction for $195,000 and looks capable of having a decent career. Trainer Hugo Padilla enjoyed winners at the track on both Monday and Tuesday, I like this horse to make it three-from-three. I’m hoping for 2/1 to 5/2 when the market gets priced-up on the site.

23:45 Louisiana Downs:

There were a bunch of very short-priced favourites at Assiniboia Downs today but none of them felt any sort of betting value. Instead, for Wednesday’s Nap of the Day, I head to Louisiana Downs where a shipper who has been racing and placing at places like Aqueduct, Belmont Park, Keeneland, Churchill Downs and Saratoga takes a massive step-down in class and looks by far the class of the field.

I’m taking Business Model in the fifth. This six-year-old has wins under his belt from tracks such as Saratoga, Belmont Park and Keeneland in the not-so-distant past and his breezes at the track over the past two months have been mightily impressive. He is being asked to go seven-furlongs tonight and his last win was at this distance back in August of last year.

Feels a bit strange to tab a horse who hasn’t won in his past ten as a Nap but the level of competition that he’s up against later today is a good step or two down from what he’s been used to. If he runs the type of race that he was doing up on the NYRA circuit in the early months of the year, that should be enough to win here. We should get 2/1 or so when the odds go on to the site.
