Last week Monday was poor but the rest of the week was superb, let's hope this week follows that trend because no winnings were returned from the selections last night. Maybe I just don't like Monday's...

For our US Horse Racing Tips for Tuesday, I have a Nap from a sprint race at Finger Lakes coupled with two each-way plays later in the evening...

19:13 Finger Lakes:

We start our Tuesday US Racing picks with our Nap of the Day, which comes from the third-race on the card at Finger Lakes, where five-time winner Jak n Burny takes to the track after shaking off the rust with a blistering 104 ESF to open up his 2024 season.

This talented four-year-old has shown a penchant for speed and has only finished outside the top two in one race from seven started. That was by far his worst performance but he hopped out of the gate and subsequently bobbled. When the race is only going six furlongs, there is not a great chance to catch up after two missteps out of the gate.

Last time out he looked mightily impressive, leading from the front and when Flying Emperor tried to challenge him a furlong out, he found another gear to pull away and win fairly comfortably. He feels like the most likely winner State side tonight and if we get the 7/5 the Morning Line indicates, I’ll take that.

21:20 Fairmount Park:

My roll of the dice yesterday in an Extra Place Race did not go well but we can’t win every day. I have found some potential value though in the sixth-race on the card at Fairmount Park, where a serial contender is priced-up at 6/1 on the Morning Line and rated as the fifth-favourite in a seven-horse field.

I’m talking about the six-year-old Gold Smoke. Last time out, he was asked to go a mile for the first time in nearly a year and he faded after being in contention through five furlongs. This evening he’s going six furlongs, which has been his usual distance over the past 12 months and his record has been very good.

In 2023, he raced six times at this track and hit the board each time, winning twice. So far in 2024, he’s finished runner-up on two occasions plus that fifth-place finish when asked to go a mile and he would also end up fifth in his season opener. Going back over his past 11 starts though, he’s won three and placed six times in that span. If we get the 6/1 each-way that the Morning Line suggests when Betfred put up the odds closer to Post Time, this feels like a good play.

02:30 Mountaineer:

Another each-way play here, as I think we should get a good price on the five-year-old Alicia’s Way in the seventh at Mountaineer.

After a lacklustre display last time out, where she never looked motivated from the off, this is a good opportunity to return to the fine form she was displaying earlier in 2024.

Before that off-night, it was four-straight races hitting the board, which included her two biggest Equibase Speed Figures of her career at 84 and 90.

If we get anything like that type of performance then we should be in-line to be at the pointy end of the race and the Morning Line has odds of 8/1. That type of number would be attractive. I have a feeling that one poor run has lengthened her odds significantly and without it, she would be 4/1 or shorter.
