We have a big day of racing at Delaware Park, where two of our three tips come from this Monday evening. I also have a longshot each-way play that is a big price to place.

Check out our US Horse Racing Tips for Monday below, including a Nap of the Day that I really like at decent odds...

Review of Last Week:

We were hefty with profit last week here at the US Racing desk at Betfred Insights. After an abject Monday, we caught fire and saw five of the six horses put up as straight win tips hit between Tuesday and Thursday, with both our each-way runners who ran also placing. Can't do much better than that. There was no column on Friday as I was off. So five wins from eight and two places from two, I'll take that. Here's hoping our good run continues today.

19:38 Delaware Park:

Here is a simple ‘how to’ guide that I use when looking for horses to back in the States for this column.

Firstly, have they improved in every run so far? (particularly for two or three-year-olds). Do they have a significantly better Equibase Speed Figure than the other horses in the field? Do they have a good jockey or trainer (or both)? If the answer is yes to all three, then they are very much in contention in my eyes.

All this preamble brings me to my Monday Nap of the Day and I like Rainy Skies in the 19:38 at Delaware Park. His four ESF for the year so far, 39, 72, 85 and 91. The second-favourite has topped out at 78 and Jose Ortiz is riding whilst he’s in town for the Delaware Oaks later on the card. That is the trifecta.

I could also throw in that he was sired by the legendary Arrogate, who won the Breeders’ Cup Classic and the Pegasus World Cup, so the bloodlines are strong.

There is little reason to not have him as the Nap and the 9/5 on the Morning Line would suffice once Betfred price up the race later today.

21:46 Delaware Park:

The Grade 3 Delaware Oaks is the headline race of the day and you can tell it is a big day for the track as several well-known jockeys have made the trip to be part of the action.

In this one, I’m opposing the Morning Line favourite Power Squeeze. She looked dominant in the build-up to the Kentucky Oaks, including a very nice victory in the Gulfstream Park Oaks but ran a really poor race under the Twin Spires and then bounced back with a respectable third-place at the Grade 1 Acorn but I like two other fillies more in the field.

Mystic Lake has the fastest Equibase Speed Figure among the entries and she is getting 4lbs relief compared to the other perceived top contenders but I do like the look of Sidamara.

Bill Mott has kept her away from big races and last time out, she stumbled out of the gate and was forced to go four-wide around the turn and still put up an ESF of 93 on the undercard at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks day. Jose Ortiz is in town (as already mentioned earlier) and will ride her here. She's the third favourite on the Morning Line and is my choice in the big one of the day. If we get the 7/2 that the US Pool odds suggest, I’ll take that all day long.

22:15 Presque Isle Downs:

Rolling the dice a bit here for our Extra Place Race each-way Bet of the Day as I’m taking on a pretty good turf Mare who is going out on the All-Weather at Presque Isle Downs this evening.

Single Lady has been sent out on all three surfaces in the past year and it is pretty clear that she prefers to feel the grass under her hooves. However, tonight she’s being sent out on the synthetic track and her recent breezes have actually been noteworthy. We saw her go 4f in 46.80 just over a fortnight ago and that sort of turn of pace would certainly put this six-year-old in the mix in this one.

With her recent success being on another surface, the oddsmaker at the track has put the odds at 8/1, which is probably fair. I do think however that with her good performances in training runs, that might well be set to go off at decent odds to hit the board and finish in the top-three to give us a place at a good price. I’m fully expecting 15/2 when the market opens in the UK and I’d play that each-way.
