Thursday will not go down as a vintage day for this column with only one place paying out from four picks and it was the horse I felt least confident about as well. Sometimes that is the way it goes. As always I’m picking from Betfred’s Extra Place Races and selecting horses outside of the top three according to the Morning Line Odds and we have three choices for you this evening…

US Horse Racing Tips – Friday 28 July, 2023

  • Back London Lady e/w in the 19:28 at Monmouth Park @ 7/1
  • Back Icy Storm e/w in the 19:56 at Monmouth Park @ 4/1
  • Back My Lady James e/w in the 20:39 at Gulfstream Park @ 8/1

We start our Friday evening at Monmouth Park in the 19:28 where I’m taking the fifth choice in the betting London Lady. This four-year-old filly has raced on the dirt at the New Jersey track three times and finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Going back to her last nine races on all dirt tracks, she has placed in eight of them. Her only non top-three finishes in her last ten have either been on turf or over a mile rather than a sprinter’s distance. This is a six-furlong race so her chances of placing feel pretty good to me.

We continue at the New Jersey venue for our second pick of the evening where in the 19:56 I like the chances of the fourth-choice Icy Storm. Looked nothing like his best last time out but take that race away and he’s three from three not just for places but outright wins on this track. He’s been allocated a lower weight than all three horses ahead of him in the betting and has every chance of bouncing back.

An abundance of speed looks on the cards in the 20:39 at Gulfstream where two-time winner My Lady James looks likely to go off at a much bigger price than you might expect. Once again these odds are helped by one really poor run last time out but she has placed in four of her eight starts at the track going back to last November and for the joint-fifth price in the betting, she screams value with Betfred paying out three places in this seven-horse field.
