19:15 Sunland Park (Race 3) - My Good Good Boy @ SP
On paper, there are a quite a few chances in here. That said, it may be best to concentrate on those who go for trainers who win lots of races here. As with almost her runners, Sherry Armstrong has got a tune out of Monarchos Dream (4). He won over four furlongs last month but has form over further. He is worth considering but My Good Good Boy (3) may be the one here. He won in a quick time for the level over five furlongs last month. The four year old was claimed back by Martin Valdez who lost him in September. He won four times for him last year including over this abbreviated distance.
Mr. Big Rig (1) has been absent since winning at Zia Park in December. He has been working well for his return and is potentially well drawn. Ronchetti (2) has had a recent outing. He had a troubled trip a week ago and has the back form to contend. So too have Reining Pesos (5) and Blingo (6). The first named was ran down over five and a half furlongs last time. Blingo (6) may have needed the race when behind him. I'm a Cool Cat (7) has been working well for his first start since November.
Real Penny (8) comes out of a deep and productive race.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:49 Sunland Park (Race 9) - Let Him Be @ SP
Let Him Be (9) is the runner to beat. He won back to back races at Zia Park in November including a stake. His winning run continued in another stake on his return last month. The five year old overcame a tricky draw to wire a field. He has won eleven of his thirteen career starts. One of his losses was when cut back to today’s distance but did win twice over the trip prior to that. He was scratched from a mile stake at the start of the month. Hopefully that was connections thought this was a better spot rather than having some kind of setback.
Marking Canyon (10) finished a length or so behind the selection in that stake last month. He ran even better when winning an allowance event here in January. Then he was a clear cut winner from Sambas Mark (8) and Dave's Enchantment (5). He’s a solid place chance at very least. Higher Ed (1) ran him close at Zia Park in December. He went one better when beating Still in the Trap (3) in a state bred conditions event here in January.
There are a quartet in here who get a class test after victories. Leave Them Behind (4) goes for a trainer having a super meet. Probate (7) and Sambas Mark (8) have ran speed figures that suggest they can make the frame. Tucum (11) scored over four furlongs last month. He has won over today’s distance and could outrun his odds.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
22:15 Sunland Park (Race 10) - Aye Candy @ SP
Trainer Todd Fincher is double handed here. Both his fillies look players but the vote goes to the comebacking Aye Candy (8). She won on debut at Zia Park in November 2023 but wasn’t seen out again until last summer. Her connections must have thought something of her as they campaigned her three times at Del Mar. In truth, she struggled but did run a well held third in a much deeper race than this one last September. Lack of a recent race may not be an issue as her trainer has a good record with lay off runners. She has been working regularly for some time now.
Six furlongs could be a tad short for Aye Candy (8). If that is the case, her stablemate Bow to Clara (5) is one of two obvious alternatives to her. She is progressing with racing. Last month, she came up a nose short at this level. When she broke her maiden in January, Alexandra Elaine (6) was second best to her. She was making her career debut. Second time out, she was four plus lengths too good for a field of maidens here. That was an improved try and there is likely better to come. She and Bow to Clara (5) looked to be the biggest danger to the selection
Trainer Joel Marr is double handed. His Dont Be Shy Say Hi (9) is improved in each of her three career starts. Here stablemate Let Her Be (2) more than confirmed her debut promise to slam a field of maidens second time out.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
