Huntingdon scaled

It’s jump racing all the way in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, four meetings scheduled, though Fairyhouse is subject to a morning inspection with the ground already heavy and further rain forecast.

The action gets underway at Huntingdon at 12:21, closely followed by Fairyhouse (12:33), Lingfield (12:42) and Hereford (13:00). Amongst our Tuesday fancies is one for trainer Dan Skelton, who makes his rules debut after creating a good impression when winning an Irish point in the spring.

12:42 Lingfield - Minella Marathon @ 8/15

Dan and Harry Skelton have been firing in the winners with regularity over the last couple of weeks, and a big run should be expected from MINELLA MARATHON, who makes his debut under rules.

A half-brother to bumper winner I'd Go Maniac, he created a good impression when winning an Irish point over 3m at Liscarroll in March and was subsequently purchased at the Aintree Sales the following month for £200,000.

His dam was a French 2m1f-2m5f hurdle/chase winner and is a half-sister to smart French 1m7f-2m6f hurdle/chase winner, so this trip of 2m4f on likely testing ground looks an ideal starting point for him.

13:26 Huntingdon - Blue Betty @ 4/1

Jamie Snowden’s unbeaten Lady Taditha clearly sets the standard, but she’s got a 7lb penalty to contend with for last month’s comprehensive Market Rasen success and could just prove vulnerable to hurdling debutante, BLUE BETTY.

The selection, trained by Fergal O’Brien, made an impressive winning start in a bumper on the Tapeta at Newcastle in January and was considered good enough for the Grade 2 Nickel Coin Mares’ National Hunt Flat Race at Aintree’s Grand National meeting in April, albeit running well below her debut form when finishing 16th of the 20 runners.

However, she may have had a physical issue on that occasion and has undergone wind surgery ahead of this switch to hurdles. A half-sister to three hurdle winners, she’s an interesting contender for a yard that won the last two runnings of this race.

14:36 Huntingdon - Forget The Way @ 5/2

James Owen’s FORGET THE WAY ran a solid race behind his higher-rated stablemate Mermaids Cave in a claiming hurdle over this course and distance at the start of the month, and a reproduction of that may be good enough to see him make a winning return to handicap company.

The eight-year-old is by no means prolific, winning twice in 27 starts, but he’s generally consistent, running to Racing Post Ratings in excess of 112 on six separate occasions and rarely below 104 since joining this yard from Alan King in April last year.

He’s got form figures of 2312 in four runs at this track and he looks the pick of the two Owen runners in this field. The booking of Gavin Sheehan, who is 3-8 for the yard, catches the eye, too.

14:36 Huntingdon - Winner
