After the frenzy of Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday and Frankie Dettori’s amazing fairytale finale, there are four meetings across Britain and Ireland on Sunday to complete this week’s action.
Flat racing comes from Leopardstown on the final day of their season in that code, while jumps action takes place at Kempton, Limerick and Sedgefield.
We have a trio of fancies, including one for brothers Dan and Harry Skelton on day one of Kempton’s new National Hunt season.
Sunday 22nd October Racing Tips
Notnowlinda – Kempton 14:20
Dan Skelton has his team coming into good shape as the jumps season takes a step up in pace and he can combine with brother Harry to get on the scoresheet with NOTNOWLINDA in the 2m2f Novices’ Handicap Chase that is race two on the Kempton’s first jumps card of the season.
The mare made a winning hurdles debut last season at Warwick (2m, good) in this month and was on the scoresheet again at Catterick over Christmas.
She came up shy in three spring outings, but ran with credit in close defeats at Kelso (2m, soft) and Perth (2m4f, good to soft) before going on her summer break.
She debuted over fences back at Warwick last month, finishing second behind a promising Jonjo O’Neill inmate in Are U Wise To That. The third home, Gold Link, won this week at Wincanton for Emma Lavelle, boosting that form.
Notnowlinda should build on that effort and looks to have been found a nice opportunity here to justify her spot on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for today’s racing.
Cairo – Leopardstown 14:10
It wasn’t the Champions Day Aidan O’Brien would have wanted at Ascot on Saturday, the Ballydoyle supremo coming up empty-handed, but he did enjoy a Group 3 score on home soil at Leopardstown and can take out another key prize on the final day of the Flat season at Foxrock track with CAIRO.
The Quality Road colt won a Listed race at Dundalk in March on his comeback run before failing to handle the dirt at Meydan on Dubai World Cup night.
After that, he went to the Curragh in May and finished a fine second as stablemate Paddington won what was to be the first of four straight Group 1 races.
Given his record already shows a win off a similar lay-off, the break since is no major concern here and Cairo won a Group 3 over 7f at this course last October on ground that was yielding-to-soft, so he should act on this surface.
He looks the one to beat in the Listed Bahrain Turf Club Knockaire Stakes.
Jesuitique – Sedgefield 16:25
The Durham National is the feature at Sedgefield this afternoon and it features a cast of seven set to tackle the three-mile-five-furlong challenge.
Cartmel winner Marshalled is a contender for Ben Haslam and No Cruise Yet should go well for Sam England, but preference is for Dr Richard Newland’s JESUITIQUE.
The trainer has a good record in this contest and this five-time hurdles winner has run good races in defeat at Bangor and Uttoxeter since switching to chasing, both times over three miles.
The French import is at home in the mud and very much shapes as if this marathon distance will be within his scope.
