Stay Away Fay Grand National Odds 2025: Bryony Frost to return to the UK with a bang?

Eight-year-old Stay Away Fay makes the field and is one of the longer shots coming out of Paul Nicholls’ yard at Ditcheat. Could this be a year too early or can he prove the doubters wrong?

It has been a tough season for this eight-year-old as a series of niggly issues and poor form has left his supporters looking for a miracle. Could that happen though with the announcement that Bryony Frost has been booked to ride him having left UK shores behind for France a year ago as the retained rider for Simon Munir and Isaac Souede?

The jockey has yet to win the Grand National but she has twice been on board winners at the Cheltenham Festival. She won the Foxhunter Chase on Pacha Du Polder in 2017 and two years later started a strong relationship with Frodon, one that would end with 11 winners for the combination, including the Ryanair Chase and the 2020 King George.

Stay Away Fay has been ridden by Harry Cobden in the majority of his races, including that breakthrough victory in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham back in 2023. Coming in at 18/1 that day, it was a strong gutsy run that seemed to indicate bright things on the horizon.

The rest of 2023 went well, but since then nothing has gone right. Pulled up in the Brown Advisory despite leading as late as the 11th fence, before a similar fate awaited in the Scottish Grand National at Ayr and in a Pertemps Hurdle Qualifier at Wincanton on Boxing Day.

A solitary run in 2025 came once more at the Cheltenham Festival, but finishing 11th in the Ultima was not exactly what the doctor ordered.

There is clearly a nice horse here but a series of poor runs and the fact he’s only crossed the finishing post once in his past four starts is certainly a big concern. If he runs his best race, Stay Away Fay can place but that is a massive 'if' at this point.
