Stattler Grand National Odds 2024: Faith required to back this horse

Any time you have a horse who has enjoyed the Winner’s Enclosure at the Cheltenham Festival in the field, they are at least worth giving more than a second look to. Stattler took home victory in the Ukraine Appeal National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys' Novices' Chase back in 2022, beating favourite Run Fred Wild straight-up and going away.

We saw him follow that up with a couple of runner-up positions to Gold Cup winners as Minella Indo and Galopin Des Champs both beat him into second over in Ireland before he was pulled up in the feature race at Cheltenham back in 2023.

His season so far has been mixed, coming home plumb last as the rank outsider in his opening race after a 254-day break in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase before the mighty fine Allaho beat him in a Grade 2 at Thurles.

Last time out it was a disappointing fourth as the 7/4 second-choice back at Punchestown as he did not jump well, which has not really been a knock on him previously. Is that an anomaly? Stattler backers will surely hope so and Willie Mullins liked his chances at the Cheltenham Cross Country, before that race was scratched due to the conditions. I think he’ll attract good support at a decent price and may well be Mullins’ best shot at winning the race.
