Southwell Tips: Casa to stand Tall in Nottinghamshire

Southwell must pass a 7:30am inspection if there is to be any jump action in the UK on Tuesday and it’s hoped that the cracking seven-race card gets the go ahead.
12:15 - Sageburg County @ 11/4
Nine runners are set to go to post for the opening contest, a two-and-a-half-mile handicap at 12:15 and it’s difficult to look beyond the progressive Sageburg County.
Warren Greatrex’s runner bolted up over course and distance seven days ago and the six-year-old is unlikely to be stopped by a 7lb penalty.
It was only a four-runner race that Sageburg County won last week, but the six-year-old Jumped well, travelled strongly and appeared to relish the testing conditions.
Greatrex’s charge beat Tom Creen eight lengths into second, and that looks pretty decent form, considering that Sam England’s chaser was looking for a hat-trick of victories last time out.
13:15 - Casa Tall @ 9/4
Casa Tall was a 121-rated chaser at his peak and the nine-year-old runs off a rating of 100 today. He is having just his second run for in-form trainer Ben Pauling and the son of No Risk At All looks to have a fantastic chance, dropping into a 0-100 handicap at 13:15.
A sixth-place finish on first start for Pauling at Carlisle in October doesn’t look great, but Casa Tall was beaten only four lengths, in a slowly run race, and there was enough shown to suggest plenty of ability remains.
Three of today’s six rivals were pulled up on their last start and Casa Tall looks to hold an outstanding bet in a weak-looking race.
15:20 - Alright Dai @ 6/1
The final race on the card is a competitive handicap hurdle over two-and-a-half miles at 15:20 and Alright Dai looks a standout wager.
Neil Mulholland’s charge showed promise in three bumper runs, two for trainer Dan Skelton, and the lightly-raced five-year-old makes his handicap debut here after a good maiden hurdle run at Fakenham in November.
The son of No Risk At All looked on course to strike at Fakenham, only to weaken before jumping the last, and while it’s easy to attribute that to the trip, Mulholland hasn’t been shy in giving the five-year-old another crack.
A mark of 88 looks very fair, on the evidence of last time out, and Alright Dai is worth another chance.
