There’s a six-race jumps card from Southwell on Tuesday evening, and punters have some decent fields to decipher. The action is highlighted by a good handicap chase at 18:35, and it should be a good evening of racing at the Nottinghamshire venue, with readers able to watch the action between 17:35 and 20:10.

Southwell Tips – Tuesday 18 July, 2023

  • 17:35 – Young Wolf @ 14/1
  • 18:05 – Lord Bryan @ 11/1
  • 20:10 – Betty’s Bell @ 5/1

17:35 – Young Wolf @ 14/1There’s a field of 12 set to go to post in the three-mile handicap, which starts Tuesday’s card, and it’s a race that can go the way of YOUNG WOLF.Jonjo O’Neill’s runner was tailed off at Bangor when last seen 293 days ago, but there is hope of a revival tonight. Clearly, the 10-year-old has had issues, given that he has been seen sparingly in recent times. However, O’Neill is a master at bringing horses back to form, and Young Wolf has scored off breaks of 60 and 305 days in the past. The son of Vinnie Roe was rated as high as 142 in the past, and that obviously makes a mark of 99 extremely workable. A chance can be taken that enough ability remains for Young Wolf to blow his rivals away.

18:05 – Lord Bryan @ 11/1Lord Bryan was sent off a 7-1 chance when pulling up on his latest run at Worcester, and there appeared to be some confidence in a better showing from the eight-time chase winner.Peter Bowen’s charge was rated 116 last year, and the 12-year-old is now down to 105. Clearly, there will not be much improvement from Lord Bryan at this stage of his career, but there may not need to be.The 12-year-old drops into a 0-105 handicap chase for the first time since he scored off a mark of 99 at Ffos Las last year, and that could see a better show. Lord Bryan certainly displayed plenty of zest and jumped well in the main at Worcester on his latest run, and he was only pulled up after being hampered at the 11th fence.

20:10 – Betty’s Bell @ 5/1Betty’s Bell has edged up the weights for a couple of second-place finishes, but Ben Pauling’s charge ran extremely well when finishing second to Blue Sans at this track earlier this month, and she may go one better on Tuesday.Betty’s Bell stayed on well over an extended over this course and distance in Nottinghamshire last time out, and a likely strong pace can see her go one better for the in-form Pauling yard.
